Oviatt House Bed and Breakfast

A fun experience close to multiple Traverse City activities. Julia was an outstanding host and amazing cook. We stayed 3 days and all the breakfasts were delicious. It’s an historic home with the usual creaky floors but extremely comfortable. We stayed in the Grose room which had its own back stairway to the driveway and its own bathroom. Highly recommended.

This is a lovely historic house in a perfect downtown location.  Julia, the innkeeper, is an excellent cook and accommodating hostess.  We spent two nights here in the Grose room, which has a nicely updated en suite bath.  We were surprised to find we were the only guests staying here.  The bed was comfortable, and air conditioning was running during the day; the fan was sufficient at night.  My only suggestion for improvement would be to add blackout shades or drapes for the windows, as there is quite a bit of outside light at night.  Breakfasts were fantastic: potato-and-egg tortilla with chai scones and fresh raspberries the first morning; hard boiled eggs, bacon, and caramelized banana pancakes the second morning.  We asked for an early breakfast on our departure day, and Julia cheerfully made that happen.  The B&B is within easy walking distance of several restaurants for dinner.

This is a very nice B&B. Julia and David (mostly Julia) were delightful hosts and made sure our stay was wonderful. The breakfast we had each morning was delicious. The rooms at this Inn are on the smaller side but were clean and very comfortable. We stayed in the Grose room, which had a private bath and entrance. The location is perfect, not far from downtown, but very peaceful and quiet. This is a nice choice in Traverse City. 

Where do I start?! I have to break it up into categories.
•Staff
First of all, Julia was a wonderful and accommodating host. She was quick to respond to emails and calls and was so sweet to us.
•Breakfast
My wife and I are vegan, and Julia was so accommodating! She reached out to make sure she met every single need we had. She even created a menu just for us and the food was THE BEST breakfast I have ever had! I would go here just for breakfast!
•The Rooms
We stayed in the Grose room and it was fantastic. It was incredibly clean and so quaint. This room has a private entrance and that was really nice! To not have to walk through the whole B&B was nice and helped us keep quiet for everyone else around us.
•Location
Oviatt House is the perfect location! It's about half a mile from the heart of downtown Traverse City, and it across the street from a cute breakfast place. The B&B is in the perfect place, not too far from downtown, and just far enough away to be quiet.
Overall, I couldn't recommend Oviatt House more. We will definitely be back!

Julia is an excellent hostess and breakfast was delicious...we ate like a King❤️ Our room was comfortable, clean, beautiful new bathroom. A welcome respite after wandering around town all afternoon....Thank you for your hospitality...

My husband and I spent a weekend at the Oviatt House. It was our first experience staying at a B&B, and it went way above and beyond our expectations! 

The room, our attached bathroom, and common area were extremely clean and neat. Especially during a time of Covid, we were paying extra attention to cleanliness and it was wonderful and felt very safe! Everyone was also required to wear masks in the common area, which we appreciated.

The location is perfect! It was a short 5 minute walk to Downtown, which made it so nice when grabbing  dinner or looking at the shops.

The breakfast was incredible!!! I consider myself a picky eater, and both mornings my husband and I were treated to a huge spread of delicious, fresh, homemade food! There were also homemade cookies when we checked in, and snacks/drinks available during the day/evening.

Julia, the inn keeper, is so sweet and personable. We loved chatting with her during breakfast. She offered lots of great places to visit and see around town. She is truly fantastic at her job! 

Overall, we had the best weekend at this adorable and cozy B&B! We will absolutely be back!!!

We just stayed in the Oviatt House on our way back from Mackinac Island. The room was very comfortable and the food was delicious. The location is perfect for walking into town or to the lake. The innkeeper, Julia, is very helpful. We highly recommend staying here.

I' ve been there june 2015 , 12th to 14th .the owners love to talk,to Guide you around Leelanau península.
I loved to play the piano att the living Room  !! :) I Will keep those two days in my heart.  Hope can be back Someday. 
My dream since I was a teenager was to visit Michigan state, It came true when I was 40 years old  in the best way  as possible , It was wonderful !!

I stayed recently for a girls' weekend. Great location, amazing food, and the innkeeper was wonderful. Can't recommend it highly enough. Rooms are small but cozy and comfortable. Walking distance to downtown which is great. Wine and snacks are available in the evening.

My husband and I took a “gypsy” trip through Michigan...no plans and no reservations. Although I’m sure it doesn’t happen often, Oviatt House had a room available at the last minute. The house is tidy, welcoming and comfortable. Although we did not have a private bath, it did not present any inconvenience. Julia made a wonderful breakfast, and we enjoyed the meal with seven other guests with a great conversation. I would choose this B&B again!

My husband and I stayed here while having a recent get away to Traverse City. Location is great-just a 5 minute walk to downtown with many theaters, shops and restaurants . And the Rare Bird brewery is just across the street and The Filling Station-another great brewery with the best pizza is a short walk away. Lots to do in TC and the Oviatt House is convenient. We stayed in the Hammond Room-largest shower I’ve ever seen! Bed had nice firm mattress too.Breakfasts are delicious and Julie accommodates special needs. Snacks are available during the day for guests. Julie was kind to provide me cooler ice packs since I left mine at home.
My only suggestion for improvement is some work in the yard to make it more attractive and give it street appeal.

My husband & I chose to stay at The Oviatt House for a long weekend in Traverse City while celebrating our 5th wedding anniversary. I reached out to Julia to request a small surprise treat for my husband and she baked the sweetest and most delicious little carrot cake for us! She also left some champagne, which was so kind and thoughtful! There is also a kitchenette downstairs stocked with local wines to sample if you so choose. We didn't get up to any of the Leelenau wineries, but were able to sample some of their tasty wines at home on a rainy evening instead. Julia's breakfasts were tasty, healthy and so filling. Every morning was something unique and delicious. I have already re-created her delicata squash and spinach salad at home! We stayed in the Grose room and found it to be a very comfortable stay. The rooms are all quite small but cozy and very clean. We found it helpful to have a separate entrance and our own bathroom. Thank you to Julia and David for their hospitality and recommendations while we visited- we hope to return and will look forward to staying with them again!
