Don't really see what the other reviews are complaining about, only camped one night but lady in reception was very welcoming and helpful bathrooms & kitchen clean and wifi worked although not throughout whole camp. Sold me some steak to bbq and offered if I needed anything from town Cheers

Good place to camp

We bought our cabin at a discounted price so it was a great deal. kids loved to pool, owner was nice and helpful. camp is not directly at beach, about 10 min walk. It looks like is has been a hugely popular place a while back and we heard it is for sale now. Looks like previous owners run it very down. Cabin was ok but bathroom needs urgent updating. Communal kitchen, laundry and outside seating area was well looked after and clean. It would be nice to have some sort of shade to sit outside the cabins. Also, just a few small changes that would make it much easier for travelers: hooks or shelves to put anything on, having the couch facing the TV, 4 chairs if cabin sleeps 4. All in all, a good enough stop to spend the night before going up to the Cape and we hope it can live up to its potential once again in the future!

Not living up to its potential but a great budget sleep

Friendly staff though not overly helpful. We stayed for 1 night in an ensuite cabin which for the price we could have gotten somewhere nicer. Chose it for the location which has great close access to 90 mile beach that you can walk to in a couple of minutes.

OK for camping

We stayed there for 1 night, in july. 
The good point. The place is close to the 90 mile beach ramp.
The bad points : just about everything else. Fom the frosty welcome, to the frosty good bye from the management ( same person).
The room (so called cottagej was terrible. The door not functionning, bathroom window does not close well, kitchen gear dates from the Jurassic period.
But the worst thing is, the room was even more frosty than the face of the manager. We’ve experienced 12 degrees celsius in the room and living room, and 10 in the bathroom. And this was after a whole night with the ridiculous heater on. This thing actually did not heat anything. we had to sleep with 2 layers of polartec clothes and a hat on. The color of the water coming out of the shower was well, so colored that we chose not to use it.
No internet, no phone, no nothing.
I saw a sign stating the business is for sale at a cheap price. How surprising!! Good luck for the future new owner. Lots of things to fix.

Terrible place- terrible management- terrible experience

I was pleased when we arrived, we were greeted by a friendly  teenage girl who checked us in.
Unfortunately that was the only good thing about staying here .

There is NO phone coverage - forget the internet, you can’t even make a phone call.

The water from the taps was a light brown shade, so we had to drive to Kaitaia to buy drinking water.

Lots of flies and bugs in the room including a white tail spider,

We paid $120 for 4 adults in a very run down cabin.  It is one of the most run down places I have stayed for a long time.

Beach is a 3 min walk, but beware as you walk there, you may get hit by a hooning car coming off the beach.
