nilaveli palm house

We stayed here for several nights, in the peaceful and quieter resort of Nilaveli, close to Trincomalee. We were very pleased with the tranquil location and very much enjoyed our stay at Palm House. The owners were very helpful and even put us in touch with an excellent and very reasonable B&B for our next stay in Sigiriya (Mana's B&B). Our stay for enhanced by the particularly enjoyable company of a tiny kitten in communal areas! The traditional Sri Lankan breakfast was excellent and our room was very pleasant, with a balcony and excellent air conditioning.

Actually a great option to stay in Trinco area. Simple and clean rooms, very tasty food. 
250m from the beach from where you can go (just ask there..... ;-) ) for boating, dolfins and whales seeing, snorckeling, hence avoiding expensive and overcrowded Pigeons Island...

I stayed here for five nights and I really enjoyed my stay.
My room was basic, but that is to be expected for the low price. It was however, clean and well kept.
The family looking after the place and the rest of the staff, were a delight and I enjoyed my time with them.
Breakfast was simple but delicious. 
The only slight complaint was that the air conditioning could have been a little colder. There was no hot water, but in hot Sri Lanka, it was not an issue for me, due to the warm weather and not so cold air conditioning. 
I had a lovely time here, the location was great, about 16 km from Trincomalee and close to some nice beaches. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for simple, clean, comfortable and affordable accommodation in Nilaveli.

Great peaceful stay in beautiful Nilaveli. 

Nice location

Great guest house, close to beach

Offers clean room with fan and musquito net. Very good breakfast. Adapted for backpackers and snorkelers (just in front of pigeon island). The hotel also offers lots of activities for all kind of budgets. 

Good for a night

We went to Nilaveli Palm House because of their excellent ratings on Booking. I cannot understand the rationale for these good ratings. 
Nilaveli Palm House is not in Nilaveli, despite its name. 
It is expensive. And for the same price in the area it is easy to find a clean place with hot water without having to pay a tuk-tuk ride of 800 LKR to get to the nice beach. 
We had 2 rooms and only one of the shower was working. 
We also had an electricity cut-off. 
And the muezzin started at 4:30 in the morning. Of course not the responsability of the staff there, but didn't help make it a pleasant experience. 
If the place was cheap, we could understand the limited cleanliness, lack of comfort and poor location, but at 70 USD per night and per room, this is very disappointing. 
The only good thing about this place is their excellent breakfast. 

Disappointing experience

We were dissatisfied with our rooms standard and cleanliness, and wished to cancel our two-night booking to find a nicer hotel. What followed was truly appaling! The staff locked the gate to keep us in, and the owner was verbally aggressive towards us and harrassed our driver, who had absolutely nothing to do with our booking or the descision to cancel. Horrendous service! I will never return, and will advice friends and family to not even think about booking this hotel.
