Mufrasa Backpackers Lodge

The backpackers is located right on the beach walking distance to the market. The beach is beautiful and long for a stroll. There is plenty of activity during the entire day with fishermen preparing the nets, bringing the fish and preparing to go to the lake, children playing on the water and everyone doing their laundry on the shore. But the best of all are the people there; from the owner (Captain Mufrasa) to the cook (Giz) and all the guys around helping. They made me feel at home from the very first moment. It's a very popular place during the weekends with locals coming from Lilongwe to enjoy the lake, so you will finally find a real local place full of warm hearted Malawians. I recommend it 100%!!

The location is unbeatable. You have your own private beach right in front of the lodge. Behind the dorms you can hear the hippos grunt and you can explore the rocks and the village nearby. If you climb up the rocks right behind the lodge you get a s stunning view over the bay.

I stayed in a dorm room (3 beds)  and I had it for myself, which was really nice.

The ablutions are a bit far away and a bit dark, too. But the water pressure in the shower was pleasantly strong, which is rarely the case in Malawi. 

If you are planning to take the Ilala ferry this is a very convenient place to stay as oyu can reach the port by foor in just a few minutes.

I only staed for one night, but I wished I had come for longer. This place is definitely worth hanging out for a few days. 

I spent a night at Mufrasa Backpackers Lodge to see the final night of the Lake of Stars Music Festival. Francis, the manager, was helpful and secured me and my friend a ticket to the concert. He was very attentive to customers. The owner was a great host as well and provided us ta free transportation to the concert location.
I definitely recommend this place for travelers in Senga Bay!

Simple Place with Great Food

We stayed at Mufrasa while spending four nights at Senga Bay. Not much privacy on the camping site, it’s right on the beach with all the locals fishing, bathing and doing laundry. Toilets weren’t that clean and the food varied every day when ordering the breakfast. Francis the owner was really nice and his bar was open late and full of locals hanging out. Basic accommodation with simple food and local vibes!

I visited the lodge as a day visitor on my 1 day excusion to Senga Bay for sports fishing. The resort has a very nice Jamaice vibe to it.I met the owner Francis and what a guy. Food and drink is good and cheap. I took a shower after the day in the sun and had a few cold ones under the huge tre on the beach. Very nice as a backpackers lodge. On the beach, great

Plesant lodge on the beach

Very cheap accommodation, and good food. But it's a bit long wait for the food. Food is basic. We stayed for two nights, we will be back if we can. It's nothing much to do here but it's a relax place to stay for two or three days if you want to have a quiet weekend. But the bar music is a bit loud, it's not a problem if you have standard double room which is separate building away from the bar. If you stay at dorm maybe a bit noisy. Overall is good 

For us there are three tour guide which is not related to the lodge. They approach us and give us $15pp for a trip to the lizard island. But they never mention about some extra. Once we reach the island, they said if u want us to walk u to the fish eagle nest and see the lizard, $5 extra pp. it's not expensive but I just don't like they way they ask money for. And the way they talk, it's like cheating you with very cheap price, and then when u reach the island they ask for more and more, and keep selling you some stuffs. Which make you feel like a walking wallet. In the end we just do a hike to the top and snooker a little. And two of us only get one snooker. We have to share. Which is ridiculous. If we want two, then we have to pay for more. And everything is not mention when we talking the day before. Their name are, Manson, Bryan and Trust. If you guys meet them, please do not trust what they say.
