Montevideo Chic Boutique Hostel

Room was right next to the common area/dininng room/reception, and the door did not block any noise at all. Reception is upstairs and someone has to walk down to open the door, so you need to wait a minute, but other than that service was good. Booked this without realizing the bathroom was shared, but that's my fault. Location was decent though for visiting museums and such in the center. No aircon (and no window, just a fan), but the temperature was fine while I was there

Location OK, but very basic & don't expect quiet

No breakfast was offered. Wifi / internet connection was slow.The room had 2 single beds but these were not very comfortable.The air was very poor and only a fan available in the room for cooling.The hostel is on 2 floor with stairs and no elevator available.The shared bathroom, toilets are on another floor, not on the same floor as the rooms.

Budget hostel

The place is absolutely beautiful. The location is by very short walking distance to the ferry terminal, tge old city (Ciudad Vieja) and Centro.The atmosphere is more like a family of young people living together. Some residents seem to be staying there for long term.However, we, as a couple, booked a room with private bathroom and the bathroom was in fact shared. But for backpackers sleeping in a dormitory, those well-maintained shared facilities shouln’t be an issue.

Beautiful hostel in Ciudad Vieja

Ok hostel in a lovely old building with very friendly and helpful staff. It's located in an old sector of the city that is part run-down with a fair few homeless people, part cool and under renovation.

My room was spacious but did not have a window so was warm even with a fan.

Ok hostel, very friendly and helpful staff

We were very disappointed in this hostel based on all the positive reviews. My husband and I have been travelling for 12 months staying mainly in hostels and this would have to be the worst yet. Most of the other guests seem to be living there full time and you feel like you are staying in a big share house rather than hostel. I think the staff are just whomever has lived there the longest. It is hard to identify which pyjama wearing person is staff if you need to ask anything. Shower sometimes worked ok and other times a trickle. We were in private room and floor was very dirty - had to wear shoes or feet were black. Door to room didn't lock from inside. Street feels a bit dodgy at night time as very quiet and no restaurants or bars are nearby. Wi-Fi was not great.
Positive was having use of washing machine.

Not very Chic

Ceilings are about 15' or more high, and the rooftop is a great place to look out over the city, including the shipyard area. I don't think the service is typical of a hostel, in that it was not exceptionally friendly. I wouldn't necessarily say unfriendly, but it's just not what you're used to when you go to a hostel. Breakfast was at a charge, but was delicious. The room we had did not have an outside window, but I'm not sure of any of them did. There is a fan, but even with a blasting on you from a couple feet away, we were incredibly hot and found it very difficult to sleep, not to mention the mattress was very poor, even for a hostel.

So so hostel in beautiful old building

Great place overall, but be warned that the old city (where this hostel is located) turns into an absolute ghost town on the weekends - we arrived on a Saturday night and had to walk quite a way to find an open restaurant. If you're planning on staying over a weekend, you may want to consider another neighborhood.

This place is a shame for the whole industry, and incidents like ours make people dont want to back to hostel again.We were a bit before checkin time wanted to leave our suitcases, but as i assume due to possible overbooking we were checked in to sort of the storage room, what we were not really happy. The room had no window, and apart from bed there was a one night amp without bulb (sic!), one broken bed site table and on metal locker. All this made improsion a prison cell not a room itself. The picture was fulfilled by the sewage pipe sticking out of the wall. (Although i cannot speak about all of the rooms, but the common bathroom was in similar condition as well).We were not seriosly satisfied with the room but were told that there was no possibility to for a change, neither a refound.I have the photos which i will ask hotels.com to publish.Staff is a bunch helpless youths, when asked to speak to owner they said there is no possibility to contact with (although im pretty sure they are owners).We decided to move from this ramshackle spot to nearby 3* with breakfast & bathroom for 5 euro more (the so called last minute price in chic was 35 euro).If you expect an athmosphere in exchenge of lower quality you can be dissapoited either.

Worst overpriced place ever! Avoid!

That is terrible experience finding the hotel, after two hours of taxi ride to hotel, we find the hotell in the worse part of the town with home less people sleeping at the foot steps of the hotel. The hotel seemed to be vacant and no light. When we rang the door, the manager showed up with his cut off tee shirt smell like weed with his half naked girl friend. We double checked the location of the hotel and he confirmed that it is the Boutique chic hotel , at which time, the drive said" I don't feel comfortable leaving you here so he drove us to another hotel". I tried to file a complains about false advertising with Expedia, and they were not helpful either. Do Not book anything in the dump, if you want to come out of that place alive.
