poor poor poor customer service. their hot water system is trash but then again that might just be the country itself. 
great location however, restaurant below par, horrible service, nothing on the menu. poor island. 

carnival 2023

I would rate Mindel as a mean rate hotel, whatever this means.
It is clean and located downtown which making it attractive for businesses trip. 
Don’t have great expectations. It is a legit hotel for stay and meals. Nothing more nothing less.

Oh MY GOD. DO NOT GO TO THEIR RESTAURANT in the back. NO NO NO. Listen you mean to tell me your restaurant had only one COOK. This is during the LARGEST FESTIVAL which is CARNIVAL. and you had one COOK only. How is this possible? We waited over 3 hours for our order. after 3 hours we decided to walk away. 
There are two girls working in the lobby. please tell them to smile more. they're no help at all.
THERE'S NO HOT WATER. 

NOT WORTH THE PRICE

Mindel Hotel is not a 4* hotel in Western standards but I think you should not expect that when coming to the island of Sao Vicente. However, the rooms are clean and well equipped (air conditioning, TV etc.). The hotel is professionally managed and staff is very helpful and friendly.

I was there during the Carnival and can recommend everyone to visit Sao Vicente during this period. There are smaller celebrations on every Sunday heading up to Ash Wednesday but the main celebration is always on Tuesday before Ash Wednesday. The Carnival is really an amazing experience. I really appreciated that I could buy some tickets for a stand at the hotel – otherwise it is really difficult to see anything. Tickets for the stands sell out very fast. I purchased mine on Saturday before the celebration. There are different stands, ask for the one in front of Royal Eden cafe. Be there no later than 15:00 - 15:30 on Tuesday because once the celebrations have started it’s difficult to get around in the city.

Very enjoyable stay

First I would like to thank the staff and Mindel Hotel for taking care of quite a few passengers stuck in Mindelo for four days due to the recent bruma seca (dust storm) that shut the airport down.  The staff worked unfailingly hard, provided reasonable meals, and attempted to provide us whatever information TAP Air Portugal cared to give them about our status (very little, but that’s another story).  An extra “star” for the staff is warranted here.

As for the hotel itself – it has seen better days.  The hotel was certainly clean, but the lift was not working the entire time we were there – in a seven-story hotel this can be a bit of a problem!  The wifi is literally the worst I’ve found at any hotel I’ve ever stayed at that offered it – despite staying on the floor immediately above reception, and right at the center, the wifi dropped constantly and in fact typically required me to be right in the room’s doorway to get any sort of signal.  Because of my situation with having to continually revise onward travel plans this was extremely frustrating.  It was marginally better in the lobby.  Do note that almost all construction in Mindelo is concrete block and that will affect signal strength; that said I had much better service elsewhere.  Had I known I’d be in Mindelo for as long as it turned out I’d have used the SIM card they hand you at the airport – CV Telecom is immediately across the street!

The hotel has an enclosed rooftop pool and outside deck; these unfortunately were not available during my stay despite being over the New Year’s holiday.  The rooftop deck would have been a lovely place for a drink or a lounge chair as it has a fabulous view of Mindelo.

The hotel’s location is excellent – “downtown” Mindelo is tiny so this applies to most locations – it should be noted that the pleasant square across the street is a popular late-night meeting place and can be a bit loud until about midnight (part of Mindelo’s charm is that it is a late night city with many entertainment options).  The rooms were quiet, however, and mine was on that side.  Beds were quite firm with minimal mattress depth but that seems to be par for the course in this part of the world.  The bathroom was clean and everything worked – toiletries were at best average.  There are a couple of Fregata “supermarkets” within a block that will meet your needs for toiletries.

Due to the kindness of the staff I do hope that there are plans to enhance the hotel experience at Mindel Hotel – Mindelo is seeing a bit of a boom in new hotel construction and they will need to do so in order to keep up.

Pleasant staff; hotel needs a bit of work

Stayed nine days at Mindel Hotel just after extensive renovations under new management. This place is  a bargain! The pool t the roof is now cover with an added natural tanning sun room. The dinning rooms and barbecue just opened and an all you can eat breakfast that includes everything you can think of.

Easter break

The hotel is really worn out. Screams for renovation. Meanwhile everything is clean and ok, just very worn out. The bathroom is very very old fashioned and not everything works properly. No hairdryer. The deposit box in the room was broken. Perfect location,  near the harbour and city center. Very good restaurant (one of the best in town). Breakfast was poor. 

Pretty sad situation

An average hotel with nice rooms in a great location, almost waterfront; a variety of restaurants within reach; we never got to the swimming pool though; the food wasn't very impressive. The staff doesn't speak much English. When asked you can even get freshly-made omelette for breakfast.

Good location

Convenient location but wasn’t quite prepared for the street noise the first two nights. The noise grew on me as I️ started understanding the culture. 
Nice staff, easy to get around from this hotel. 
The beds are rather tiny and almost on the floor 😳. Bathroom very small but I️ made my self comfortable for my stay. I️ simply said , what the heck ! 
I️ know for sure I️ will return to Sao Vincente over and over again. I️ went to explore the island and not the hotel so I️ stayed focus on the treats of this lovely, stress free island. 



9 day stay

it must have been a serious good place some years ago but definitely needs a complete and sound renovation.. This blue everywhere is just stressing... we just had breakfast and it was quite correct....What else ?
