Matvilla Beach Lodge and Campsite

This is a hard hotel to evaluate. The people are VERY friendly, especially the front desk and the chef. The location is unbelievable. It is located right on Lake Victoria. You see Rock Hyraxes walking around the rocky terrain. It is great for seeing sunsets. The only downside are the rooms. They were dirty, old, and in desperate need for updates. If you are okay with the rooms being old and dirty, the location and staff are phenomenal.

I had gone to musoma for a weekend and friend of mine showed me this amazing place! The food was lovely, the stuff was quick and caring! I would love to be back here 👌👍, the best time was when the sunset was infront of me!! Everything went woo!!

We arrived at Musoma and needed a place to spend the night. After driving around most of the town, we found Matvilla Beach Cottages, and it was exactly what we wanted.
It is in a really beautiful setting - we climbed to the top of the rocks into the water, and watched the sun set over the lake - really very special.
There are none of the "lake bugs" around, that had really bugged us at other places we had stayed on the lake - it is simple, but run by really lovely, enthusiastic team, who are doing a great job, and providing a really good service.

Incredible location

Lovely place to stay, in a beautiful location right on the lake

Fantastic time!

The location overlooking Lake Victoria should make this reason enough to come t o stay. However it is the most expensive accommodation in Musoma. 
Lunch was delicious. It took an hour to arrive and when I reminded the waitress I had asked for lemon she took I tg off another plate and placed it on mine. I would return but the service needs to be addressed.

Frustrating service

Journey through Tanzania
We check into Matvilla beach hotel and campsite which we had read about courtesy of Trip Advisor which is a very good resource when you're planning to travel. You can and should use it to check and book hotels, check out and plan trips and sights and sounds of places and advice on why and what not to do. 
We order lunch of fish and ugali with vegetables and the young man goes for chicken and fries. The food takes a while to be ready but when it comes it is worth the wait. This hotel has beautiful and rustic rooms which has made good use of the natural rocks on the site. Outside our rooms were young boys fishing for tilapia and it took me way back into my childhood when we would go fishing madumbwini that is the shallow dips left behind during the low tide. Of course we took the obligatory pictures and then took our lunch which was fit for kings. 
We then started on the 230km drive to Mwanza and the drama of being stopped and fined by the traffic police continued until we learnt the trick. Whenever you approach a town drive at 20kph and they've got nothing to arrest you for. We then made it safely into Mwanza and used our friend trip advisor and miss Google to locate us a hotel. Arrived early evenng tired but well enjoyable trip and grace and glory to Jehovah God for journey mercies.

Journey through Tanzania

Nice bungalows with tasteless African interior. Good location with nice views on Lake Victoria. Prices are very reasonable and if you're lucky you can spot some monkeys, iguanas or hyraxes. As with all hotels we have visited in this region, there is barely any idea of service. We once waited for 2 hours for our omelet and some samosas.
