Mango Bay Cottage Resort

This place is amazing for those seeking a remote and romantic stay. There are only few cottages making this place feel quite private as the number of "neighbor guests" is limited. Each cottage comes with its own kitchen, bathroom and terrace. Not all of the cabins offer direct view on the bay.

There are wooden stair going down to a private beach which, considering number of possible guests, is very spacious.

I recommend booking a dinner, served by the facility manager. Even though, the food is vegetarian (I love meat) we enjoyed so much that we decided to book a dinner for all our evenings while staying at this place. Despite moving to different places later during our trip and visiting many restaurants in Grenada, we did not come across anything comparable to the food served at Mango Bay Cottages.

Stayed here in the middle of November for 3 nights. On arrival was shown my cottage - beautiful with a superb coastline view (recommend to ask for this if you stay here). Ate breakfast and dinner for the duration of my stay; probably best food I've ever ate in paid accommodation anywhere in the world and all vegan. The presentation/flavours were like something out of a 5-star restaurant - no exaggeration. Chef should have a Michelin star. 

Went out for 2 full days with Robbie, a local for whom the cottages call when people want to be shown around. Robbie knew Grenada back to front. Excellent host - safe driver, fun (good tunes in the car!) and reliable. Visited various waterfalls, beaches and local eateries that Robbie recommended - did not disappoint. 

The cottages are a fair drive (30-40 minutes) from the airport so be prepared for a fair albeit beautiful drive. They organised for me to be picked up via Facebook messenger & I arranged with Robbie to drop me off. I would recommend doing this.

Would definitely stay again/use Robbie for transport and local knowledge!

Tranquil location, Fantastic Chef

We underestimated how long it would take to drive up the windy roads and our other Grenada host from my previous hotel said it was not possible in the dark after our flight in from the US.  We tried to contact the Cottages but failed so I asked my host to contact the cottages.  She was successful in requesting a one night cancelation and we stayed in town and decided to drive up the Mango Bay Cottages the next day in daylight.  

We were upgraded to the top penthouse room but as Mark M/Amsterdam described in his review, the cottages have seen better times.   The porch view was incredible and the room is large with a functional kitchen and wifi but the furniture is old and unkept.   I had booked this place as a celebration for Christmas and "splurge stay" but it was ok.   The customer service was nice to upgrade us and we took pictures around the grounds but there is nothing to do at these cottages or nearby.  It is on a hill in a residential neighborhood overlooking the water.  The beach is small, not great and no one was on it so hard to swim because it was rocky.   
Unless you drive, nothing (food etc) was not close-by.   We went to the market to buy groceries so we could eat. 
It was Christmas so the neighbors were loud all night and the hotel said they couldn't do anything about it.  We had to keep the windows open because the air con didn't work well and we used a fan.  The next morning we had to check out exactly at check out time.  I would not return.   We were not a fan of Grenada (in general) and I won't return.   The island seemed to be tired of tourists so why go to a place that treats you like a human ATM.

Upgraded to Top Floor Apartment

After reading all the positive reviews, our expectations might have been a bit too high. The latest review has been almost six months ago and we are just wondering what happened in the meanwhile because I am far less enthusiastic than most other reviewers.

The place is a bit difficult to find. There is a sign on your left before entering the town of Concord. Go down this paved road road and follow the dirt track on your right. There was a second sign, but it is torn down. The place is beautifully situated on a hill overlooking the ocean. The two upper rooms have ocean view and are significantly larger than the lower rooms. One of the upper rooms was occupied, the other has a malfunctioning aircon, so we decided to take the only available lower rooms (As the other was flooded and was being renovated). The room had a very bad fungus oudor and there was a lot of fungus on the ceiling and in the bathroom. The dished of the previous guests were left drying in the kitchen. There was no hot water available. The manager told us to leave  the tap open for a while but that did not work.

The manager is friendly and trying to make you feel comfortable but apparantly lacks the resources to do so. After complaining we got two free beers and an air freshener in the room.

We checked in on Sunday and as there were no restaurants nearby, we had dinner on-site. The chef described in other reviews has left and the restaurant is not vegan anymore. Apparantly there was no time to buy ingredients for our dinner: We were served two cold chicken legs, cold cooked potatoes and a tasteless macaroni pie. Probably leftovers from yesterday and not worth 30 USD per person. There are much better options in St George.

The beach is a small black sand beach, accessible by some steep hardly maintained stairs. The beach is mostly deserted and you can enjoy the sunset on your own if lucky. Beach towels, foldable chairs and umbrella are available in you room to take down to the beach.

The location is great but isolated. There us no decent supermarket nearby so the kitchenette is not really useful and you are depending on the cottages restaurant for breakfast as well, which is not available before 9 am, which I think is rather late and contradicts the information leaflet in the room which indicates breakfast starts at 8 am.

The Mango Bay Cottages might have been a great place to stay in the past but it looks like the owner has not invested in it for some time and the place has seen better days. If you still want to visit, make sure to book one of the upper rooms with a functioning aircon.

Disappointing: Not recommended.

We booked the Mango Bay Cottages as it was a small quiet place away from it all. After reading the reviews - which were okay up until we booked, we were looking forward to some relaxation. However, on arrival we were very disappointed. I have to agree with the more recent reviewers that the downstairs rooms were not rentable. We were given one of the downstairs rooms and there was a very strong musty, moldy smell in the room from water damage, and a cockroach climbing inside of the bed net. We were upset that the condition of the room was not communicated to us in advance. In fact we received no communication in the days leading up to our stay, not even directions.
As our basic expectations were not met we drove away to look for other accommodation.
