The owner Ras is a visionary bungalow and plantation owner. The story of this place is truly remarkable, not least because Ras tells it with such passion regarding what he has achieved. Communication before and during our stay was helpful and very quick.
We took the bus from Negombo to Puttalam and then again to Eluwankulama where we were met by a tuk tuk for the 1km ride to the house. 
The house and grounds can't really be described.The surrounding area is right on the edge of Wilpattu national park so hanuman langur monkeys, peacocks, egrets, herons and elephants are all visible for the lucky guest! Then Ras and his team have planted a host of tropical fruit trees and bushes which taste great and attract yet more birds. 
We stayed in the tree house which had a beautiful view across the area. The room and bathroom were very clean and the bed extremely comfy. It is important to note that it's beauty is that it is extremely open and at one with nature. One night I was bitten by several mosquitos despite the nets. Yet on the next night,following Ras' burnt coconut deterrent, not a single one!

Breakfast and dinner prepared by Kumari was excellent from homegrown banana pancakes to delicious egg Dahl. Marcus - your on site assistant is a lovely, kind and extremely hard working man. He does not speak English but understands Tamil and non-verbal extremely well. He could not do enough to help us alongside all his other plantation jobs!
Ras, ever the brilliant host, phoned several times to check all was well. He then booked a brilliant safari for us with the expert spotter Sajid. Despite the drought thanks to his expert eyes we saw crocs, birds, elephants, eagles, deer, sambar and the tiniest of baby crocs that we thought was a log!
We also enjoyed a local walk with Kumari and Raja where we saw a host of beautiful scenery, wildlife, people and lots of elephant prints!

A fantastic stay in an as yet lightly touched area. The thing I enjoyed the most was how sustainable and at one with nature and the community this place is striving to be.

When you arrive somewhere and ask yourself if you dream or if it is real... it means you stayed at Leopard Lakes. It is an outstanding house in an outstanding environment. The bedroom is extremely spacious and clean, the beds are big and comfortable. There are fans and mosquito nets + Rasika added an electric Moskito repellent, we didn't get a bite... the private bathroom is clean and nice. Bedroom as access to private balcony equipped with sofa and hammock, which looks like a treehouse. The living room is a giant open space with tables, chairs and some "fat boys" to relax, you can also play music. There is a pool just behind the house. The garden is made of mango, palm and coconut trees, there is a fence to protect from the elephants because they might walk around in the property. Ras is an exceptional host, a very interesting person to talk with. He would do everything to make sure you have the best Sri Lankan experience possible. We went to the close by river to have a swim with him. He arranged our transportation (Colombo to the house, house to Trincomalee), safari and the food. The latter was freshly prepared by a local chef and it was amazing (and not too spicy). We believe this place + Ras and his employees are a real hidden gem of Sri Lanka. Of course we highly recommend it.

Just back from an amazing weekend at Leopard Lakes. This was our second time here, and we loved it more. The owners and staff are very friendly and made us feel at home. Enjoyed scrumptious meals including crab curry and a yummy BBQ dinner. Highlights this time: safari to Wilpattu National Park, Night Safari in the surrounding areas (at our own risk) and a drive upto Dutch Bay area which had amazing views. We travelled as a group that included kids who loved collecting sea shells and it was fun helping some fishermen with their nets. 
It's so tranquil and you can completely unwind. Amazing star gazing too.

Nice hotel located at the putthalam side of the wilpattu National Park. The location and the contemporary design of the place is awesome! Very tasteful food and the owner Rasika and staff very friendly. strongly recommend.

Best place to stay if you visiting Wilpattu

Actually a great place. And the nearest stay to Wilpattu. We stayed in tree villa for two night. Could be such a great place. But it seems that they don't want it to be. Cause a lot needs to be maintained. Holes in moskito net. Broken shower etc. A cleaning could be better. For instance the pool was very dirty when we arrived. But also room could need more cleaning. If it was my place I would certainly make a few improvements. Food was great, but heavily overpriced. If only they wanted it to be, it could be the best place.

We stayed at the Tree House villa with our family including our toddler son (2.5Y). The location of the villa was great and the food was also good (overpriced though). 
But we had a very uncomfortable sleepless night because we were bitten by some flying insects all through the night. Later we found out those are the small brown beetles infested in the room ceiling. Even the mosquito nets and repellents could not stop them. Our son was heavily bitten by the beetles leaving blisters and rashes all over his body. 
Water quality of the bathrooms are bad (water is yellowish and stinky, maybe this is a common issue to the area), water supply and electricity were not steady, Rooms were not swept when we checked in.
I would like to suggest the villa management to maintain the place better.
