I stayed @ Lemur Hostel for 2 weeks when I arrived in Antananarivo before moving to my flat. The staff is a whole family dedicated to your well being, nice, attentive to your needs and with good advice. The WIFI is particularly good, which enabled me to work from there without any difficulty. The dormitories are basic, for less than $10 a night, it's definitely worth it! The hostel is well located, easy to access several parts of the city. It's also secured, the gate is constantly closed. There's a shared kitchen in which you can cook your own food, as there's no half board: only a free breakfast is provided. Very nice stay overall, ideal for small budgets. Enjoy!

Cheap, calm, secured and well located

We spent our first couple of nights in Madagascar here and it was a great intro to the country. The staff is Malagasy and they provide good guidance. There are a couple of good restaurants/cafes nearby- ask them about the solid Thai place if you are willing to spend a bit more than the typical dirt cheap meal.  As with the rest of Tana, I would not recommend being out too late past dark.

We had a private room and it was clean and perfect for what we needed. They gave us guidance on where best to go in town and in the city along with a walking map. They normally have an actual guide but he was ill at the time. They had an airport pickup for us also. The trip from the airport to this hostel/any main part of Tana is 40mins to an hour depending on traffic. 

We weren't super close to the main tourist part of Tana, but after we went there I decided I really preferred it that way.   It was a little more chill where we were. You could also walk up the winding hills and there were several overlooks over the city. 

This is the kind of place where you will meet other backpackers, can get a good shower, a quiet and cheap room, and a quant breakfast. Overall perfect hostel experience in Tana.

Quality hostel in Tana with good private rooms

Comparing to other hostels in the southern part of Africa this has been a very good one. Excellent, superb friendly and extremely helpful, english speaking staff, the owner, who is a traveller herself and still works at front desk almost every day, moscito nets and sockets at every comfortable bed, the strongest wifi in the country, free breakfast as a nice touch, book exchange, superb location, 2 banks and Shoprite supermarket nearby. Excellent! And the price is unbeatable. Keep up the good work girls :)

Great value, superb staff

Hostel´s owner and staff are super nice, and willing to help plan all the travelling of the customers. It was comfortable, cheap and it includes good breakfast. I would recommend staying here if you travel to Madagascar.

Perfect Hostel

I had a very comfortable stay at this hostel, which is very good value for money and includes a small breakfast, which I felt was a nice touch, as well as the complimentary tea and coffee for guests to help themselves to. The people working at Lemurs are very knowledgable about Madagascar and really friendly towards guests, creating a very welcoming atmosphere. The dorm bed I stayed in wasn't a bunk bed, which I found much easier to access, especially when leaving or arriving early. The room was also spacious, which adds to the comfort factor of not feeling like you're walking over others. Mosquito nets surround the bed posts (rather than being the usual wrap around tunnel affair), which I also found to create a more enjoyable sleeping experience. The atmosphere at the hostel is very laid back and travellers from all over the world appear to stay there. There is also a supermarket located nearby, which is handy, or several types of drinks can also be bought from the hostel. Cleanliness at Lemurs is also excellent. Various Madagascan souvenirs are also sold at the hostel, which were actually more reasonably priced than from the local shops. There is a family of three small white terriers living at the hostel, who are just the friendliest and sweetest dogs ever. I would definitely stay at Lemurs again and would recommend it to others staying in Tana.
