There is a reason this hotel ranks number one on Trip Advisor (or should): the Gerg family who run the establishment. The father and daughter team are outstanding hosts, always cheerful and always accommodating. We had a room with wraparound balcony looking out towards the mountains. (The hotel is not on the lake so no water view and the lake is a bit of a hike.) But it is close to the Franz Marc museum and local restaurants. The food is great if you stay for dinner but the restaurant is closed two evenings a week. Breakfasts are hearty and the Gergs will make you eggs. The room was sparkling clean with a large bathroom with tub. There is ample closet and drawer space for unpacking. There is a room safe and a hair dryer. From Kochel one can set out for lakes and mountains as well as other nearby landmarks and museums.
