Buzz's Lakeside Inn

While wedding-venue-hunting, my family and I drove up to Buzz's around this time (May) of last year and immediately fell in love with the view and the lakefront property. We had decided on a ceremony spot down the street at Michillinda Lodge and were on the hunt for a lakeside reception spot. We met Buzz and his wife working in the garden and had a lovely Mother's Day brunch. At the time, they weren't considering a Memorial Day wedding because that's usually their busiest time of the year in the restaurant, but somehow we finagled our way in and I'm SO HAPPY WE DID. Jump to this May, Memorial Day Weekend. We ate almost every meal here leading up to our event, we hosted our rehearsal dinner in the Garden View Room, and then hosted our reception on the Sunday evening. Our guests LOVED the views, the dock, the laid back atmosphere, and having the option of popping back to their room on property if they needed to! *Nod to all of the front desk staff, the bar staff, and the restaurant staff - you were all lovely!* Buzz's is a quintessential Michigan lodge. Lakefront, cabin-style, no-frills, great staff. This is *not* your luxury lodge or cookie-cutter brand hotel that cranks out weddings all of the time. It is a 106-year-old lodge that is full of charm and sometimes needs a little love. It is full of a staff that loves what they do and will try really hard to make your stay the best possible. Becky, the General Manager, was our main point of contact and handled all of our wedding planning needs & requests. WOW, did she work her butt off (this lady needs a staff of like 15 people of her own)! In the same vein as before, she is not a wedding planner that you'll find in residence at big corporate venues: while attempting to accommodate our every need, she was also running the place as its General Manager and was operating as the only employee during the off season. So HAVE PATIENCE - it will all turn out great! We had a bit of a kismet moment there -- we met a couple on our wedding night that was at the bar at Buzz's, who had had the same wedding band as us 21 years ago! They come to Buzz's all the time to enjoy the bar and the views. I got a sense that a lot of locals & regional people make this their go-to spot and I can see why. It's pretty magical. Thanks for everything, Becky, Buzz, Nan, and team! Zach and I will definitely be coming back for food & drinks on our anniversary trips!!! :)
