La Telleria

I picked this hotel just from looking on a map. It is tiny and looks like an old village inn yet it is new and clean inside and has modern amenities. The owner, Javier, is delightful and made me feel totally at home. He is a great cook. Breakfast is included, other meals are about 10 euros. The town has a population of 300 in winter and 600 in summer, with gorgeous landscapes and historic ruins. There are crops and fruit trees everywhere. The nearby town of Fresneda is a must to see, so clean and full of atmosphere. The natural surroundings are breathtaking. It is peaceful and relaxing. I'm not sure what the area around the hotel is known for. I picked it because I wanted to experience a small pueblo and meet rural folk who work the land. The people I met were lovely. I didn't have a car so I had to take a bus to Alcañiz and also take taxis, but they weren't too expensive, 20 euros from Alcañiz to Valjunquera. Javier might give you a ride into town, as he did me. He is very kind.
