Fantastic
We had originally booked a week in the B&B situated at No: 6, but in view of a situation that arose beyond Vincent’s control, we were offered the self-catering accommodation next door at No: 4 for the same price. Never having been self-catering before, this was going to be an adventure, so my comments will refer only to the property at No: 4. On arrival, Vincent introduced us to his wife, Elsa and three children; Elsa had cooked some Breton shortbread for us which was greatly appreciated and very delicious. Every morning Vincent greeted us with fresh baguette & croissant and for the rest of the day we were left to our own devices. However, knowing that he was available next door, should the need arise, was reassuring. He was very sociable and his friendly manner made our stay that much more enjoyable. We had a free car park space outside the property and sole use of the house comprising two bedrooms, bathroom, kitchen, dining-room, lounge as well as the garden. The accommodation was furnished to a very high standard throughout, spotlessly clean, and every possible cooking appliance that one could need was at hand. However, our cooking needs were quite simple – fresh baguette/croissant (brought each morning by Vincent) and cereals for breakfast and for the rest of the day we ate in Morlaix, usually at the local crêperies. One should be aware that neither property has a TV if this is important to you, although there was excellent WiFi. Vincent did make me aware of this prior to our arrival, and I subsequently purchased a Chromebook, which satisfied our needs admirably. We were able to watch live French channels (France 2 & France 3) and via FirstOneTV were also able to watch live UK channels, although the reception with the latter was not as good as that from the local channels. La Petite Folie is situated in a quiet residential area, which is far well served by the local public TIM transport system. There is a bus stop on Avenue de Lycée, just opposite to Avenue de Kernégues, with frequent (every 20-30 mins), cheap (€1) and rapid (about 5 mins) journey into the town centre. The service is excellent, so long as one is aware of its limitations – last service into town in the evening is around 1930 hrs and there is no service at all on Sundays. Morlaix is also served with an excellent railway station using both local as well as TGV services. The station is very modern, but still being constructed, so if you wish to utilise its services, I would recommend taking the TIM line 2 from the town centre, rather than walking up rue Gambetta (fairly steep !!). We had days out at both Roscoff and St.Brieuc which added to our travelling experience. In conclusion, Morlaix is a lovely Breton town with lots of attractions to visit (see my subsequent reviews which include Tourist Information Office, the Viaduct, Maison Ducchess Anne and Maison Pondalez), and La Petite Folie is full of charm and character, together with car parking access in a quiet residential street. Whether you opt for B&B in No: 6 or self-catering in No: 4 you will not be disappointed. Highly recommended.
