Kone

One night stay for work in Koné at La Néa, in a garden side room. Very pleasant atmosphere as you are facing a very lsuh forest, which makes a very relaxing break on the Balcony. The room was standard, clean but probably need to be refreshed as some paint is peeling here and there. Very quiet which I enjoyed to work, large area (couch + dining table), TV with a dozen channels, functional kitchen, paking in front of your room. The restaurant is quite good, but service can be a bit long at peak hour, so the bar is welcome to have a dink while waiting. 5 min to the village if you need to do a bit of grocery / snack shopping. Overall a good option for the price you pay;

Price competitive option

Stayed at Hotel La Nea for three nights in September 2018. We decided to stay in Kone as a base for seeing sights which turned out to be a good choice. 

The hotel is basically bungalows, and these are spacious, have a car park out the front and a there is a secure gate for entering the bungalow complex (for cars only as either side of the gate is open). 

Inside the bungalows there is a desk with TV, bar fridge, couch, and plenty of room. Also have little balconies. They are secure. 
The hotel offers a pool, restaurant, bar. We ate at the restaurant one night and the food was average. I ordered fish which came with lovely sides however the fish itself was over cooked. 

If you want to do your own thing for food, options are limited. There is an Asian restaurant a little outside of town but you will pay over $60 for a buffet. Close to Kone there is a shopping mall with a bakery that also sells salads and decent coffee. You can ask buy salads etc from most supermarkets. 

Reception staff very friendly and helpful- will go the extra mile to help you out, very impressive. 

From Kone make sure you take the mountain drive to the west coast of the island- it is so beautiful! Stop at the look out points and you can walk down to the riverbed at one stop! If you can take a few tins of dog food to help the one or two lovely stray dogs you will meet at these look outs who will look at you kindly for some food. I only had an apple with me and although it ate it- I wish I had some real food. 

We also took the trip to Bourail and back to walk the three bays at La Roche which is highly recommended. The return trip is about 200km so would have been easier staying in Bourail. Kone is also a great stopping point if you want to go north to Voh. 

In summary, La Nea comes highly recommended as a less expensive hotel option with a great quality, to stay at and use as a base for exploration of the local area. It also has the best wifi I have seen on the island yet!!

Great option for Kone 

This is a nice hotel with a good restaurant and generally friendly helpful staff. Not much to do nearby however. A good stopover if you are driving up to the northeast coast. Rooms are basic but comfortable 

Nice and quiet when we went.... pethaps too quiet for some

Really liked this hotel in Koné. The rooms were large and clean. One side of the adjoining rooms had a sofa and the other a kitchenette so worked out perfectly. The shower in both rooms was awesome and both had good aircon.

The staff were really helpful and even made us a beautiful lunch when the restaurant was supposed to be closed. Thank you!

There is no recycling at the hotel but plenty in Grande Terre if you take stuff with you.

I would really recommend this hotel, especially for the price.


Great stay in Koné, clean large rooms

Located a short distance outside the town of Kone, there was not much else in the immediate vicinity of this hotel.

Our bungalow (number 26) was well-laid out, other than the separated toilet and bathroom either side of the entrance (we can confirm that the toilet door still squeaks, as reported by a previous reviewer!) The TV channels included BBC World News and the Australia Plus channels, good alternatives for those without fluent French.

The hotel has a small swimming pool alongside a terrace area adjacent to the bar and restaurant. The dinner options were not terribly inspiring, but we had reasonable meals from the ‘bistro’ menu (available prior to 7pm).

The buffet breakfast was pleasant enough, without perhaps the abundance of choice available at some of the other hotels that we stayed at on this trip.

The hotel was an OK option after a lengthy drive from Noumea, but probably wouldn’t warrant more than a night.
