We were booked into this hotel by our Tunisian hosts and stayed for 5 days. The reviews had prepared us for a difficult stay but on getting there we were pleasantly surprised. It should be noted at the onset that this is a rather basic hotel, with musty carpets in the corridors, dirt in nooks and crannies, creaky furniture (freshly painted blue), non-functioning television, no extra power sockets to charge your stuff etc. However, what makes the stay memorable is the view of the Tunis Lake out of the window. In fact, there is a pleasant little verandah with the room where we spent an inordinately long time just staring out at the sea and the crowds around. The hotel is located in a non-touristic neighbourhood and in the evenings you can watch a slice of regular Tunisian life unfold around you. Taxis are as easy to get as in other parts of Tunis and the la Goulette station (for trips to Carthage, Sidi bou Said as well as downtown Tunis) is within walking distance. On the street behind the hotel, there are rows and rows of fish restaurants selling amazingly cheap and fresh fish dishes. Most of the guests in the hotel looked local or from neighbouring countries. The hotel also seems to be understaffed but the staff at the front desk, like most Tunisians, are relaxed and friendly. Wi fi is available only in the lobby and the lower floors. The breakfast is brief and boring.

A pleasant surprise

I been in this hotel becouse agent put me in. Food is disaster,rooms dirty and people rude. All in all very bad!!!!!! I thin that some prisons have better accomodation really!!!!

If you are reading this then you must be desperate; my very best advice is to stop reading now - stay anywhere else, in fact I would probably take my chances on the beach!

Beds that you feel the need to keep your clothes on in, and then throw them away in the morning.  A bathroom that appeared last cleaned on installation, with towels that are best left un-described.   A wall mounted AC unit, with so much mould running down the wall beneath it that it was generating either a new strain of Legionnaires, or a cure for the common cold.  The fridge was riddled with rust, and the TV reception was as good with the power off as it was with it on.  Breakfast was as it infers, fast, a buffet with a dubious selection on offer – perhaps a little training in time or temperature food control measures would be of help to the staff.

I was in one of the suites, perhaps it was themed, though I think not.  The staff were friendly, but the owners really do need to close the hotel and renovate, which with the economical situation in the country will not be an easy task.

For any travellers I would highly recommend seeking an alternative in nearby Tunis.
