We spent 4 weeks at this very comfortable and cosy fully self contained 14th century renovated cottage in St Quentin de Baron, approximately 25 kilometres east of Bordeaux.  This cottage is ideally located and close proximity to many wineries and chateaus and an easy drive to the beautiful town of St Emilion, Libourne (great Sunday market), and Creon (great Wednesday market). Our friendly and knowledgeable hosts Carol (American born, so very handy for the English speaking guests) and Bruno were a wealth of information for local sites and activities. Easy drive into Bordeaux, the Medoc appellation  is a day trip and San Sebastián is accessible by the motorway, for those wanting to venture a little further.  We highly recommend the relaxing atmosphere and amenities available at La Forge.  This was and unforgettable experience.

We stayed here in Sept 2016, and just getting to write it up now. What a lovely place and Carol is an absolutely wonderful host!!  We wanted a relaxing place to feel French countryside and La Forge delivers.  Being able to correspond with Carol ahead of time (she arranged an anniversary dinner reservation by sending us 3 menus so we could choose!), and while we where there (chateau tour, things to do), increased the quality and comfort of our treasured vacation.  La Forge has different chamber options, from just rooms to one with a full kitchen, but all include a lovely breakfast where international guests enjoy easy conversation with Carol, a warm host with excellent English and French language skills.
In my mind, I was hoping for something like this place, to relax and feel the French countryside...our stay here was beyond memorable, so we are truly happy and recommend a stay here highly.  Her guests were also enjoyable, so it seems this place self-selects for kind people who enjoy lovely ambience.

This was our third trip to La Forge in 14 years since the first. As with both our previous trips, Carol's hospitality was all one could possibly want. Before we even arrived, she was on to us, asking if we were interested in cooking classes, garden and/or wine tours, a pastry class, and informing us of local events we might be interested in.
The gite itself has undergone some renovation over the years, a new patio being added and the gite itself, while not "officially handicap approved", was very senior adult suitable. It has ramps, wider doorways, handholds in the loo and shower. There is an upstairs (loft) bedroom, which we didn't use and would recommend only to those who don't mind walking down a spiral type staircase to the loo at 2 a.m., lol.
The gite is fully equipped, and has good wifi, and is surrounded by vineyards. 
The location of Saint-Quentin-de-Baron is perfect for visiting the wine regions of St Emilion, Libourne, Pomerol, Entre-Deux-Mers, just about anywhere on the "right bank" of Bordeaux,  
The cooking class was amazing!!! It was just my wife and I. The chef/instructor had us choose, a day earlier, from a list of entrees and main dishes.  We spent the morning learning to cook à la française, and then Carol came by(with wine!), and we four sat and ate the fruits of our morning's labours. 
I could write on for an hour about the good time we had this stay. If you have questions, ask me - I'll gladly answer.

My partner and I were in desperate need for some R&R before visiting London, after our somewhat hectic 3 month (driving) trip through Europe. So I cannot say enough how pleased I am that we stayed at La Forge!! Everything about the stay was perfect, from the picturesque naturistic surroundings, to the cosy room (with heated floors!).

Carol was such a lovely host, we couldn’t have asked for better! She was kind, accommodating and an interesting person to chat with! She was extremely helpful, offering plenty of suggestions and recommendations for restaurants and places of interest.

It was truly a wonderful short stay here, we enjoyed every moment. Thank you.



Charming with the best host you could ever want to make the most of your stay in this gorgeous region of France, La Forge is a sweet, peaceful haven to stay after sight seeing. We spent a week here and it was one of the most  memorable vacations ever. Highly recommend this off the beaten path find!!!!
