la Bergerie de Remourase

The Hauts de Remourase is a Gite d'Etap - and basically that means it is a backpackers or youth hostel style, catering especially to hikers, bikers and horse back riders. It is a relatively remote location, but well situated for all these activities and not far from bigger villages such as Gordes or Rousillon. The building is modern and comfortable, very clean with nice, sturdy bunkbeds - about 8 people to a room. There's also a big family-style dining table where I believe you can eat your own food, but the host, Dominique, will also make delicious meals for you - generous servings of locally inspired cuisine. She was sweet, helpful and informative. My husband and I were cycle touring on a very tight budget but decided to splurge on her dinner and breakfast. It turned out to be one of our very favorite meals and acommodation experiences. If we had not done this, it would not have been such a special experience, so I would highly recommend the meals, especially if she's not full with other guests. We were the only two guests there and it is a quiet place, so the meals provided a really nice way to interact with her. She gave us helpful advice and encouragement on our cycle route and told us about the local ingredients she used in each course of each meal. She provided several courses at each meal, including local wine with dinner. It was a special experience. I imagine that in busier times, she might not be able to give such individualized attention, and so the atmosphere might be a little more impersonal, but I can't imagine it being anything less than a very pleasant place to stay. Has an environmentally friendly atmosphere and a beautiful outdoors setting. Highly recommended.
