Terrible communication. Not transparent at all with prices, availability or anything for that matter. Could not get simple queries answered. Host was trying to overcharge. Booking process is not straight-forward.

Not Transparent and Dodgy

The location and concept is fantastic but the owners of Kenza have become complacent with success. They have a thriving business with tour groups so are a bit dismissive of independent travellers. To be honest in our travels in Tunisia we felt less welcome here than anywhere else.
I imagine this will remain the case while they remain the only accommodation option in Chenini. They are well aware that tourists will pay well above normal prices for this experience.

The only accommodation in town… and they know it!

There is nothing fancy about Kenza, but it is a must. The hotel is on the top layer of Cheninni village and the rooms are in caves.. The caves are basic but have electricity and one of them has an air conditioner. The restaurant is further down the hill - the food is good but the portions are enormous! Cheninni village is a must see and the most charming accommodation is Kenza.

Charming local experience.

We had a unique and lovely stay at the Kenya caves ! We are so happy that a place like this still exists and helps to support the local people.
Make sure to eat at the restaurant Kenza and do a tour (les septs dormants, Douit, oasis...) with a local guide from the village.
We were so happy to stay 2 nights to feel the vibe. Have A tea at the Buvette all the way up as it has a breathtaking view. 

Fairytale scenery, kind inhabitants 

First of all I have to say that the place is very very beautiful.
But thats all.
The service is a joke. The rooms were dirty and the toilettes were not working. No water etc.
The food was not even traditional. Just french fries and chicken. A kind of fast food dinner. But that is only a part of our experience.
I was with some tunisian friends who booked 2 rooms for 2 nights. As new tourists from france were coming after the first night, they kicked us out in a rude way just because a tunisian name was on the reservation. In that place they treat foreigners better than they own people. My friends said that we had also a foreigner in the group (me) and so they tried to offer us other rooms. But they were even more disgusting. We wanted to pay and leave to do our planned trip but they kept us there for more than an hour. Finally we left without paying because we really wanted to leave. After 2 h we had to go to the police station because the owner was there. We went there gave him the money and left.
This really shows the worst part of the tunisian mentality. If you have euros or dollars they treat you better than others. 
We could find a different hotel for less money in the same area. 
To conclude, if you want to see the place: yes it is worth it. But please don't stay in that racist place.

Worst experience in tunisia

We were a group of 6 people, we arrived to the hotel at 8pm. We had two rooms one was huge and clean with a nice bathroom the other one was with no working bathroom dust everywhere and cold. 
We started with the dinner. I expected a typical Tunisian one. It was the first horrible thing that happened to me in that hotel. Not only it was not delicious but I also found 2 hairs in it!!!!
We booked for 2 nights with the confirmation of the owner. The next day they kicked us out ( the owner asked his worker to do it ) because they would give our rooms to a family of doctor ( the owner is a dentist ) apparently more prestigious for him ( IM A DOCTOR !) 
Then as we insisted to stay because we had a confirmation of our booking they showed us a dirty place that I  won't give it to my dog. No beds first, we have to sleep in ground with dirty bedsheets dust every.
Of course we left and we could find a very nice cheaper hotel easily. 
I strongly don't recommend this hotel. It is the worst hotel I've ever been to.

Worst hotel experience ever!!!

I made a deal with a phone call with the owner to pass 2 night the 30 dec 2017 and the 31 dec 2017 with the happy new year feast and that for me and five of my friends
the second day they said to us that we have to leave because I did not mention the second day on the email and they said that if we want to stay for free we have to change rooms we look at the rooms and that was very small :/
So please be careful when they promise you something by phone :/ They even gave me the details of the New year party by phone but they did not achieve the phone deal ! be careful

Terrible experience

We stayed at this hotel for only 1 night but we would have gladly stayed more. We had a room that could sleep up to 11 people, even though we were only 6 people. The room was very comfortable and surprisingly clean considering that it's a cave dwelling. There was a great deal of space and even a TV. The bathroom was located outside of the room but it was clean and well kept. You have to space out your showers of course otherwise there isn't enough water as it is pumped all the way up the mountain side. The dinner and breakfast were both good. You wait awhile for your food but it is well worth it after talking to the server while you wait, who also lives in the hotel and grew up there, and when you get the food it is a good example of solid Tunisian cuisine. We definitely didn't leave hungry. The views from the hotel were gorgeous during sunset and sunrise and you have a direct view of Chenini from the "lobby" area of the hotel.
