Picture this hotel in the right angle. and you can appreciate it for its lost glamor and splendor. It is a fun, relatively inexpensive place to stay on the park. Its balcony provided a perfect venue for watching one of Xela's Semana Santa processions in the night. The lights lit the street in splendor, and the music would have taken you back into another, slower era, of an already slow city. I would stay here again, despite it desperately needing a little TLC. It seemed as if the 1970s astroturf carpet was dirty when I walked on it barefoot in the room. It is too bad, because as a history buff, I enjoy staying in historical places. This could be a great place, though it is only average. If this were a hotel located outside of the historical center and not right on the park, I would not stay here. I would have given it a poor, as well, had the hotel had bad staff or had a different location. I would stay here again, despite, the noise in the balcony room and the dirty feel of the carpet, just because of its staff, park view, and its feeling of a grander time of when it once was.

Staff were very nice and the place was clean.   The hotel has a great and central location. There is no heat but several older blankets were provided. The run down condition, peeling paint, cold showers and noisy street are reasons I would not return.

Worn Out!

We have travelled to this hotel quite a bit in the past and it has not changed at all in over 20 years. That includes everything... Furniture, bedding, etc. That really didnt matter to me since location is prime UNTIL i went to wash my hands and found two little bars of soap in there BOTH with hairs on them. Cleanliness is essential. We asked them to clean the whole room for us including bedding but they could not since they had noone working that night and offered another room. It had urine on the floor and paper too!!! The frontdesk boy was nice and this was obviously not his fault. We left and went to another place. The hotel needs renovation and lots of work but if it had been clean... It would have been a satisfactory stay.

Everything would be okay with the hotel. Except this one little thing. Our room was crawling with cockroaches. I couldnt have been more happy with our early check out. I went into the bathroom at night and I encountered maybe 20 cockroaches all shapes and sizes. The place should really look into it

Being a seasoned traveler to developing countries, I can tolerate A LOT.  This place, despite its potential, is not where you want to be if you actually need a place to sleep or escape the congestion of Xela in quiet.  I tried two rooms.  The first, with a window looking out onto the inner courtyard, smelled overwhelmingly of sewage.  Black mold in the shower.  No hot water.  Bed a brick.  I tried again.  Was changed to another room, just off the entry, with door opening right into courtyard/restaurant area.  Although I knew it would be bad, I had no idea the "church services" being conducted overhead would last late into the night (this on a Friday night), could hear literally everything from everybody.  Another brick bed, no window; everything dark and damp - sort of like a charming dungeon (colors were nice as well as the fireplace façade).  Again, hot water only if drip by drip - with any water pressure, temp changes to freezing.  Had to sleep in my clothes.  In the summer here.  Left the next morning.  Final straw was fairly rude, dismissive waiter (don't bother eating there - they could only offer me a fried egg for dinner).  And I speak Spanish, so communication was not the problem.  After reading reviews going back several years, I see that nothing has changed.  Go elsewhere!
