Hotel Tanneck

We enjoyed this hotel enough the first night of our holiday that we booked it again on the way back for a night. It is in a charming location overlooking the town which meant that we had amazing views from the balcony over the town. It is set up in the hills surrounded by trees which meant we were lucky enough to see some red squirrels playing in the trees from the balcony. Birds and wildlife surround the hotel which we liked. Walking into the town is through a beautiful park but it is rather steep. Lovely walk though, takes perhaps 10 minutes. The hotel itself is very old fashioned. Not in a retro styled way but actually still seems to have stayed the same for many years, which we found rather charming. Lots of dark wood, substantial furniture, quirky nik naks all over the place, old fashioned carpets, big sweeping staircase which was lovely. The lady at the desk was really friendly, lovely lady. Breakfast was suitable for us, cereal, yoghurt, cold meats and cheeses, croissants, bread etc, if you want eggs and fresh juice you have to pay extra but we didn't feel the need for that. I agree with other reviews about the towels and toilet paper, they aren't exactly luxury and would benefit from an upgrade. We found the beds very comfortable though, even though the double was actually two singles pushed together but that didn't bother us. You do have to pay extra if you want a tv, but since its all in German anyway we didn't bother. We aren't here to watch tv. There is parking outside the hotel but only about 5 spaces. The weather was nice while we were here but not hot so i can't comment on that. My husband did have an issue with the noise of the pipes throughout the night, the radiator wasn't on but it did make a bit of noise. Overall we would recommend this hotel if you like something quirky and different, not the normal run of the mill hotel, very old fashioned but that is part of the charm for us.
