60 reviewsWe stayed at Hotel Stangl for 6 nights as part of a Shearings all inclusive break to Thaur in Austria. It was a most amazing hotel in every way from the moment we got there till the moment we left. Sergio Brashnjann is the manager along with his wife and wonderful “children” Hava and Iilr; they were amazing working SO hard and on duty every day from morning till night. The parents should be proud of their daughter and son! We had great fun one evening when Iilr tried to teach us Albanian, so we can now say good morning, good evening and goodnight. The food was superb; no choice as such but alternatives could always be requested. Each main meal started with a visit to the salad counter (yum, yum = Austrian potato salad), then a soup or other course, a main meal and a dessert. The breakfast / packed lunches could not have been better with a massive choice of everything. The house white wine was perfect and my husband enjoyed the lager; lots of other soft drinks on tap and chilled water but beware of the strength of the orange and the blackcurrant – great once diluted with soda, lemonade or water. There is no evening entertainment but as the evening meal didn't start till 7.30pm this didn't matter really as just relaxing with the food, laughter and drink was good enough for us. Our room was enormous with a balcony even though we didn’t ask for one. The loo was separate from the bathroom and our bed was big. There was even a sitting room area with a sofa and two chairs. The Wi-Fi in the hotel is brilliant downstairs and we also got it sometimes in our room. 4G is good. TV reception is terrible most of the time. The best thing we managed to get all week was the roving weather channel (11 and 13) and we saw one German football game and also Peppa Pig in German. Apart from the included trips and one extra, we explored the area on foot, walking across the tracks of the vegetable fields to nearby villages and also to the church, high on the hillside behind the hotel. We walked 9 miles that day but that time was so special. We didn’t use it, but a frequent bus passes the door to Innsbruck. The hotel does not have a map of local paths/roads so maybe best to print one in advance if you like this sort of thing. Summing up, it was an amazing holiday. The décor of the hotel is special. I would be a bit apprehensive to go back there again as it might not come up to the visit of this time. I guess any manager could do well, but they would be hard to come up to the standards of The Brashnjann Family.
