Stayed 7th-9 th September.

First of all would like to say the rooms of pictures are totally far from what was offered or seen by myself and husband.
They completely opposite more of a room beyond basic with a bed and sheet thrown in.

Upon arrival we were unceremoniously greeted by a man outside the building who I now gather to be the manager of the hotel.
After being quizzed by this man for over 10 mins he finally acknowledge that we had made a booking.
And led us upstairs to the receptionist where we once again greeted unceremoniously.
(Seemed to be theme for the night)

I was then presented with a form with blank boxes which was where the cost of the night was so supposed to have already been filled in prior to me signing.
I was encouraged to sign and hand over my payment details to coincide with the empty space on the invoice/receipt.
I  requested that the receptionist filled in the missing space with the charge of the room.
This was not met with a happy face,as I was challenged by the receptionist.
Stating we do it all the time just sign it and I will fill it in.
I once again refused and was given a glance ( Cut eye) look.
After the signing we were requested for ID which was to be photocopied as the so call printer was not working upstairs our ID was given to young gentlemen who ran off with our ID.
My husband who is Guyanese asked the receptionist where he had gone with our ID as we were not told anything.
She then in turned thought that we needed an explanation and told us he gone downstairs to use the printer.
30mins later yes 30 mins later after my husband requested our ID back the manager arrived back with our ID. Leaning towards the receptionist and stating to her not to put the IDs inside one another.( No sorry for the wait then.)

So check in taking roughly about an hour !
We were led to our room,a box room at that with a sheet covering the bed and washroom that was locked.and was unable to be locked as they could not find the key.
After another 30 mins of trying with numerous keys.
We then moved to another room where the TV remote worked the A/C and not the TV.
A male staff member endeavoured to make the remotes work for there appropriate use.
But this was not to be so the only way of turning the TV on and off and changing of channels was to be the good old fashion way.( Manually )
Despite it being high up on the wall.
The room that we were in had an adjoining door which had a four inch gap so you could see straight into the room.
So we took to hanging clothes on the door.
 
Like I stated my husband is from Guyana and our  purpose of coming was to visit family members.
Some of my husbands family members had arrived at the hotel and where now present in the room with us.
Before they left they gave us a great warning in regards to the security making sure we put the chain on and double locked it as well as putting the chair against the door.
And under no circumstances open the door without looking through the spy hole.
As the door to our room I could only describe as being appalling  weak we made sure we put a chair against the door at night.

As we  only two nights we got early to head upstairs for breakfast.
We tried to lock our door from the outside this proved to be impossible as the room maid came and tried and so did the receptionist.
After 45 mins !!!! The locking of the door was completed at this stage my husband glanced at me to say it's only one more night.

Ive noticed in a previous trip advisor comment that seems to be a common occurrence that the door lock are faulty.
We decided to leave the TV on in our room to make out that there was someone in the room before we left for town.
We specified we did not want our room to be cleaned so one had a right to enter in to our room.
We arrived back to our room mid afternoon to find the TV switched off.
Meaning someone had entered into our room.
Fortunately we had locked everything in the room safe.

Our overall experience of this particular hotel is not a good one in regards of Good Manners and Safety.
We would never return to this hotel but will definitely come back to Guyana.

Visiting Family

I was in Georgetown Guyana in August last year. The site for me was quite. The attendance o the hotel Staff was very good. Soon this year I could be over there again. I never saw the pool. The breakfast was on time good internet access. and other utilities,
I do not why the change different  prices every da online. It is difficult to make a budget in this way.

My First Experience in Hotel Princess Raven

I went here with my husband, and also my son and family.  (They live in Georgetown)  We went one Sunday morning to use the pool.  There was some muddle at first which necssitated us walking back to the reception because we had been given the wrong information - staff really didnt seem to know what they were doing.  However, the changing facilities were good and there were hot showers and the pool was lovely.  A pity there were not a few more people there to give it some atmosphere.  Food and drinks were available but we didnt stay that long.

I had the unfortunate experience of staying at The Hotel Princess Raven located at 3 Charles Street and Evans Street Charlestown, Georgetown Guyana. The Managing Director is Paul U. Giddings and the property manager is Dacola Mars.  During my stay I witness the management personnel conduct themselves in an unprofessional manner; through the way they handle my report of my room being unlocked by the staff on 3 separate occasions, withholding money that was stolen from my room, and ignoring my phone calls as I attempted to communicate with them. The management of this property lack effective communication ability, standard business principles, customer service, and honesty.

During the month of May 2014, I visited the country for a family emergency.  The nature of my visit caused me to leave the hotel early in the morning and return later at night.  The original room that I occupied (room 303) had a very peculiar odor, which forced me to utilize the lavender oil for my skin as air freshener in order to mask the scent of the room.  I manage to ignore the odor and the condition of the room simple because I primarily was there to sleep and I was not in the USA or Europe. 

I am a big proponent of safety, especially in a foreign country.  Because of the latter, when I first notice that there was a problem with my door not locking properly, I reported it to a staff member.  Knowing that the door lock was malfunctioning, I made sure to double check the door every time I left the hotel to ensure that it was lock.  On two occasions following my report of the issue that occurred with me, I returned to room 303 and the door was unlocked: this means that when the staff entered the room they did not lock it properly upon their exit.  This was complete negligence and unacceptable by the hotel.  The second time the incident occurred I had $50 missing from my bag that was open.  Upon noticing the missing money and clothes being tumble through, I reported it to the staff on duty.  I asked for a refund or to be moved to a room that had a better lock.  The individual was unwilling to move me or refund me; expressing that he had no authority to do so.  After an hour and a half of unnecessary back and forward, the staff reluctantly placed me in room 205, stating that it is temporary and management would sort through the dilemma in the morning.  Rather than taking responsibility and reimbursing me for my loses, the management gave me the run around; advising that they would review the cameras and get back to me.  The latter never transpired; it was management way to distracted me and appear as if they were actually working to find the underlying cause of the issue and present a solution.  Given that I am back in the States and there has been no communication on what the video revealed indicates that Mr. Giddings had no intention of following through.  What made the matter worse was when I came back to room 205 and it too was unlocked.  This made the Third time that this has transpired.  There was a DO NOT DISTURB sign on the door, which was ignored.  This further proved to me that the hotel is in need of a better lock system and added caution should be implemented to ensure safety of guest and their belongings.

Overall, management along with the staff demonstrated poor customer service, lack of ownership and accountability, and extremely poor business practice.  This situation could have been worse if I had not locked up my iPhone, 2 iPads, Laptop, and expensive belongings.  If you value your things and your time, avoid staying at The Princess Raven at 3 Charles Street and Evans Street Charlestown, Georgetown Guyana.
