We booked a room over booking.com. As we arrived they wouldn't let us in because of our pets, even if on booking they accept and confirmed our stay with pets.
They said they can decide if they accept or not, when the guest arrive.
This is a unacceptable behavior , especially if you arrive in this messy place at night and you have to look for another place another 3 hours at night

Worst place ever

Went to Coban with my family, this hotel is within walking distance to a busy market, yet is quiet and comfortable.  We decided to have breakfast here, which was delicious!  It has a very small dining area, which made it very intimate, the staff was very accommodating and friendly.  They offer wifi, and with your towels they give you an essential (to Guatemala) bottle of water.  The beds were quite comfortable specially after hiking as much as we did the previous days.  Will be coming back!

Great little hotel in Coban

I made a reservation by phone, all the other hotels in this price range closer to the plaza were full. When google maps took me through a busy hectic market I couldn't help regretting my choice a little bit. When I got here I was very surprised, the hotel is quiet and calm, the reception area is welcoming, the rooms are comfy and the price is like 20 bucks. Includes parking. Restaurant service is very slow though, so I chose to eat elsewhere, but in general, I liked it and will come here again on future trips.

This place is deceptive, as it's right at the edge of the Coban market, which is crowded with people all day long. It's in a cramped and noisy part of town. There is a sign atop a panaderia that says "HOTEL" and you make a left just after the pandaderia and proceed down a medium length driveway to the hotel, which is secluded from the street and backs onto a greenbelt hill that includes a nice little walking trail. It's a family run place, and the owner's home is on the property. The people were very friendly, the room was clean and quiet, the hot water was excellent, there is a full complement of cable TV channels in the room, and the wifi was serviceable. The Coban market, as well as most of the decent restaurants,the town square, and both the bus and minibus depots are within walking distance. There is ample secure parking for those who are driving (which we were). The neighborhood seemed quite safe, and we walked at night with no problems. We had a second floor room and you can hear the rain beating on the roof at night. If that's not a sound that you like, opt for first floor accommodation. For the price (just under $30/night US), we thought it was a great deal.

Great value hidden in the heart of the Coban market

I made my reservation by Internet from Canada and got an answer a day or two later to confirm it with the proviso that I neeeded to reconfirm on the eve of my arrival by phone

The Posada day front desk employees are quite a welcoming bunch but I did arrrive late at night (about 9 p.m. on a Tuesday) to discover the front desk managed by a young man (mid-twenties) who was notin the mood in exchanging pleasantries and after registering my personal information, handed me the room key and TV control and motioned for me to proceed to my room without offering to help me carry my 2 suitcases .

The front desk was hardly lighted and located in a small building separated from the main building containing the rooms.by a small alley lane good for the circulation of one motor vehicle .

It was raining hard (as is common in Coban during the fall) and no umbrella option was there to make pleasant the installation of a guest for crossing that lane .

The building housing the guest rooms is structured on two floors and for some reason the porch leading to the rooms is poorly lighted ( money-saving measures?) all evening and night.

After 10 p.m. , the front desk is closed and only a night guard in a small cabin close to the guest rooms entrance is on duty, 

The gate to the entrance alley (40 feet) is locked and if you did venture out before the  gate closing you must ring a bell and wait for the nightwatch to come and let you in.

Why ? The Posada rules do not allow a guest to invite a friend to his)her room nor to bring in alcoholic beverage purchased outside.

Besides these annoying rules, the rooms are decent with a comfortable double size bed assorted with bedding fitting the rather chilly nights( 10 - 15 Celsius degrees). TV with cable , a bottle of drinking water every day, good hot and cold water shower, as well as furniture to store your luggage are provided.

The location right in the middle of the farmers market , though well isolated from, detracts from its image of a respectable place, as the market street allows for the passing of one motor vehicle at a 5-mile an hour pace to prevent hurting the mostly aboriginal crowd who seems to think cars have no place there.
