I stayed at Hotel Modelo for 5 nights in August and couldn't have been happier with my stay there. Everyone there was so warm and kind and caring and really treated me like family. I'd stay there again in a heartbeat. One day I had some traveler's sickness and they really helped to take care of me. I can't say enough about Maria, Analy and Jorge and everyone else there.

Beautiful Hotel and was treated like family

We stayed at Hotel Modelo 3 nights over two visits.  It's a fascinating place, full of interesting artifacts from it's history.   Rooms vary a lot - the ones on the street are noisy on weekends; those further back are very quiet.  Beds, linens, furniture are all fine.   Be patient with the hot water, it'll get there.  

A wonderful owner is there to welcome you.  I left my money belt there on our first stay containing passport, credit cards and lots of money.  All was safe when we returned several days later.  The included breakfast is generous and excellent.  There's free safe parking.

Fascinating & comfortable Hotel

We had a good experience at Hotel Modelo. It is well designed with a fascinating history you can see through their antiques and artifacts throughout the hotel. There was a small mix up on arrival but Jose the owner went above and beyond to fix the problem. The breakfast is also very nice and location is great. I would highly recommend.

What a Beautiful place with so much history! 
Bed was very comfortable, wifi was good throughout the hotel, noce hot shower! Juan even saved my trip with a tour to Volcan Chikabal, no tour company was available!  Highly recommended!!

Beautiful Hotel!!

Hotel Modelo is a wonderful  place to stay in a perfect location. It is nicely decorated and laid out with a very helpful staff. The rooms are very comfortable with nice firm beds. Great breakfast too!

Hotel Modelo is an excellent place to stay.

While I'm sure this used to be a nice hotel, it really needs to be updated and cleaned better. We were going to stay here for a few nights but the rooms available were not in good condition. They showed us a few more rooms and they were even dirtier and looked like they hadn't been used. Definitely not worth the price.

I'm sure it used to be nice...

We stayed in room 10.  The beds were fine but the room was in poor condition (some parts looked like they hadn't been renovated since the place opened in 1892..    The bathroom was acceptable but nothing to brag about.   The entrance door to the room was rather insecure with a very poor lock.   The person handling the desk speaks English which was a plus.  Purified water was available from a large dispenser bottle in the lobby if you had something to pour it into. No bottles were available in the room but the lady at the front desk did give us a couple of bottles for free although it was advertised as costing Q10 (about $1.30).   Breakfast on Sunday was listed as a 6am start (NOT).   They finally opened an hour and a half  later.    There are no good restaurants around the hotel so the hotel restaurant is your only choice unless you want to drive your car somewhere.  We scrambled to find lunch in a little hole in the wall place on the opposite corner from the hotel.   There is a secure parking lot but the parking is extremely tight.   I don't recommend trying to park there with a large SUV. The price was not cheap for the room  ($70).   Overall, I think one can do better at some other hotel in the city.

An old hotel that has been only minimally upgraded.

This hotel was the only thing I liked about Xela. Clean rooms, friendly reception and concierge team, decent bar, tasty restaurant. The only thing it lacked was a swimming pool but we had a day out to the hot springs regardless.

Kind staff, lots of history

After the hectic of travelling through Guatemala we arrived in Hotel Modelo. As soon as you enter the lobby you leave the noise and traffic behind you and you will feel immediately calm and relaxed and cool! The hotel is thick-walled so a Nice temperature and quiet. The hotel has a lot of charm, the rooms are spacious and the family that runs it are both friendly and helpful and make you feel at ease. It was just great to relax there! The hotel is already more than 100 years i heard so sometimes the doors are a bit squaky but it had tons of charme! The highlights of the City are just around the corner. But there is also a little bar that serves Nice food as well and a patio. Perfect if you’re looking for some time-out!

Wonderful Classic and quiet hotel!

This beautiful old hotel is comfy and has a good location in the downtown area. Don't miss the garden. The staff are the best. You can speak English with the family that owns it and they are very helpful.
