The Hotel Mahkota has clean sheets and spacious enough rooms, but it isn't the nicest place you'll stay.  The bathroom was lacking any toilet paper (glad I brought my own), and the shower was a hose on the wall and a drain in the floor.  No shower stall or tub.  Also, the hotel is open air, which meant that for the 2 days when I was there in September the halls were filled with smoke from the forest fires all around Kalimantan.
The hotel does offer free wifi, although I didn't have much of a signal from my room, so I had to stand in the hallway, or in the hotel lobby to make good use of it.

Okay if you're just looking for a place to sleep

Hotel Mahkota is one of abundant list of hotels in Pangkalabun. This town offered many average cost for hotel stay since the business activity was quite high in here. I was staying there for couple weeks due to job with colleagues. 
Accesibility
From the airport, the hotel can be reached for 10 minutes and cost for 70,000 IDR (in 2014). The location is nearby the market, the river, banks, and foodstalls. 
The Rooms and Breakfast
I stayed in a room for two persons and the staffs changed the bedsheet and the towel every day. For the breakfast, they provided single local Indonesian menus with buffet. There was various menu served every day.

I met similar persons everyday and they were helpful and very friendly.

They used shower and hot water. The hote water worked all the time.

Basically I have no bad experience while staying there, the location is great, you can do shop at the traditional market and enjoy sitting at the wooden bridge near the river. You can also go across the river and see some old unused building. If you travel with friend, the cost can be very efficient compared to the services.

Easy access to downtown

Stayed here one night with my sister before catching out flight out the next day. 

ROOM: the rooms are spacious but not properly cleaned (ash still in ashtray and dust). The mattresses are alright and sleeps quite comfortably. The bathroom has a western toilet but the shower lacks pressure and it is cold. So if you like a nice shower after a few days in the jungle, this would not be the place. 

LOCATION: it is located on a busy street with street vendors and little shops. However, nothing particularly special. It's a good hotel to stay one night for an airport transfer.

PRICE: this hotel is very overpriced for what it offers. For a standard room for two people we had to pay 310,000 rp. Compared to other hotels we stayed in, it is definitely expensive for what you get.

Pretty Average

The location is good, however cleanliness was poor and there was no wifi.  The bed was comfortable and there was scalding hot water which was tempermental, making it difficult to have a hot shower without getting burnt.  Breakfast was dire - only chicken nuggets, plain rice and prawn crackers - not even any coffee.

Stayed here for 2 nights during the business trip. The room is old, damp, spacey and smell of cigarettes. The bed is comfy but the blanket is smelly.  There is window in the room and when you slide the curtain, you'll see only a big wall, no view at all. There is TV with local & international channels, unfortunately picture quality is awful. There is also electricity socket but the position is impossible, you need extra cable to charge your devices. Toilet is very old, cleanliness need improvement.

Despite the awful room, the location of the hotel is not far from istana kuning & arut river. Foods are easy to find in the area. For tourists who like to explore pangkalan bun by walking this might be good option.

Breakfast, never had  the chance to taste it. Overall i think this is not a hotel, more like a motel. Maintenance and cleanliness need improvement. Renovation is recommended.
