Hotel La Pergola

When we pick hotels for our travels in Italy, we typically pick 3 star hotels (based upon price and service levels) that have 5 star reviews. We chose Hotel La Pergola in Amalfi and it earned a 5 star review from us. The room was clean, spacious, cheerful and inexpensive. I would describe it as charming and the staff was first rate. Parking is available for Euro15 at the hotel (they squeeze you into the garage built into the building). This is important since there is no street parking nearby - which is typical of the entire Amalfi coast. I am not certain if you have to reserve parking but i would have if we were not traveling offseason. Our room had an attached private balcony that was larger than the room itself (estimate 25 ft by 20 ft); we did not get to enjoy it as much as we would have liked as we were staying only 1 night but it was great for the time we had. The view is good but not spectacular - the hotel is on an inward turn which means you get to see the Mediterranean but also see some of the mountain and roadway. Hotels with the panoramic view were way more expensive. The hotel is outside town (say 5 minutes by car) and you will need to pay for parking in town when you go to walk around. Hotels in town, again, were much more expensive. We ate at the hotel restaurant based upon the many reviews we had seen on tripadvisor - it turned out to be one of the best meals during out 2 week Italy trip and the prices were very reasonable. Everyone's dinner was delicious and the service was top flight - think 5 star NYC restaurant. I also purchased 2 bottles of their homemade Limoncello based upon some of the tripadvisor reviews and my wife and daughter wished I had bought more since it was so flavorful. This is a must stay during your trip to Amalfi - Excellent service, inexpensive and a charming feel.
