Hostel & Camping Iza

We didn't have a reservation to stay at Camping Iza but called the same day we wanted to stay there. The gal who answered the phone was the owner, spoke English very well, told me the price over the phone, said our dog was welcome, and assured us we could check in that evening without making a reservation over the phone. Awesome! We ended up arriving two hours later than we had anticipated because of a road closure, which forced us to drive well out of our way. The owner wasn't there when we arrived at around 9 pm, but her parents were there waiting for us. They welcomed us like we were family, told us to pitch our tent anywhere we wanted, chatted with us for a bit, and showed us everything we needed. In the morning, they were equally attentive. We slept well in our tent in a large grassy field a bit of a distance from the row of RV parking. It was quiet and the entire place felt safe. They had a large solid fence around their property and a couple of scary looking but penned guard dogs. We didn't eat at the restaurant there since we were camping and had our own food, so I can't speak to that. The campground isn't huge and didn't offer a ton of amenities at the time of our stay, but it's quite close to the Merry Cemetery of Săpânța, we paid only about 32 leu, or around $7.50 to tent camp for one night, and the customer service was just incredible. Really, the nicest people. It was our last night in Romania after we'd been there for over a week, and because of how welcome they made us feel, we left Romania with a particularly warm glow!
