This was the third guest house we looked at before deciding to stay for one night.  The room we selected on the second floor had three windows so was bright and airy.  The room was very clean.  

The double room was 50,000 shillings with breakfast.

As we were staying in a double room with a shared bath we usually get toilet paper and a towel, The showers had a small trickle of cold water.  The shower heads are calcified.  One shower had a hot water tank and when the water was turned on the water ran out of the bottom of the connection to the hot water tank and not through the shower.

With as much  attention to a few maintenance issues as they pay attention to cleanliness this place is a real find.

The breakfast was excellent with fruit, egg and real coffee.  The owner was very helpful and recommended and showed us to what became our favorite restaurant, Lukkman.

Very Clean

Stayed here twice during my time in Zanzibar - when I first arrived and then on my way back out.  The owner/manager is incredibly friendly, remembered me a week after I first arrived and even saved me the same room.  I paid $20 and probably could have haggled but was only ever staying 1 night so its hard to bargain on that.  Breakfast is basic but good, bathrooms are shared but nice (2 of them for the house and that seemed to always be plenty).  Location is in a quieter area of town but still within a minute walk to the market or the downtown area.  Comfy beds, free wifi, mosquito nets and above all, serious ceiling fan power.

Also, the breakfast is catered.  Kat R's review was during Ramadan so that's why it was self-service.  During my visit it was always cooked for me.

Value, clean, safe and friendly

It was the cheapest guest house we found but a surprisingly nice one!
The owners are very friendly and the breakfast was simple but tasty. The bathrooms are shared but overall it's quite clean. Double rooms cost 25 dollars per night. The location is superb! 
Would come back any time!

best option for budget travellers

If you are looking for great budget accommodation in stone town - look no further.

Haven guest house is run by friendly and welcoming staff who make you feel at home. The room are basic but very clean with nets and a ceiling fan. There are many bathrooms to choice from and hot water. The guest house  is in a great central location and they provide  free wifi!

It  is a guest house with character. A self catered breakfast (they provide the ingredients and you cook) is meant to be included but it is not always there in the morning, but a quick reminder and the staff will run out to buy bread and eggs. However, we stayed during Ramadan, which could be the  reason behind that. Toilet paper and soap were sometimes missing as well, but a friendly reminded also would get that sorted.

Great Budget Accommodation

I paid $14 for a private room here, which is the cheapest decent place you will find in stone town. It was a little hard to find, but definitely a better value than the crappy place next door that charges the same rate for a dorm bed in a 30-bed room and is filthy. It was clean, showers were good, the breakfast wasn't anything to write home about, but it was cheap and I felt safe as a female traveling on my own.
