My friend and I were recently in the Jungle of San Ignacio. Our concierge at Chaa Creek set up a morning of horseback riding to the Mayan Ruins with Hanna Stables. We had a fantastic time riding along the river to the ruins. We had the best guide, William, ask for him! Our excursion took about 3.5 hours, including a half hour stop at the Mayan Ruins. William climbed the Ruins with us and shared information about them, and we walked the property and saw Howler Monkeys, Spider Monkeys, a Toucan, and several iguanas. Upon our return, Hanna Stables served us a traditional Belizian lunch with fresh vegetables and chicken from their farm! The experience was one of the highlights of our trip, and we highly recommend a visit to Hanna Stables!

Hanna Stables is an amazing place to stay. The staff are all so friendly and accommodating and the location is breathtaking. We stayed for 3 nights and opted for the cave tubing tour which was spectacular. The food was delicious and the owner is extremely friendly and really fun to talk to.

I always ride horse on trips.  The opportunity to ride to an ancient Mayan ruin was extraordinary.  Hanna Stables has great horses.  Maxine, my mare, was fantastic.  Tequila, my girlfriend's horse was also wonderful (and trust me...over the years, I've had some bad trail horses).  We loved our trip to Xunantunich and all the wonderful knowledge from our guide.  Do this!

We did a late afternoon ride around the farm with William, and it was so lovely. The howler monkeys, plentiful iguanas, birds, and beautiful scenery made our ride just perfect. The horses are beautiful, healthy, and manageable.   We relaxed foe a nice visit with over Sebastian after our ride, and enjoyed fresh Quadra juice.   Make this a part of yourSan Ignacio experience!

We arrived early for our tour and they had prepped an absolutely amazing lunch. One of the best meals I've had in years! Our guide for the actual horseback tour was extremely knowledgeable, had a good sense of humor, and made the trip easy and fun. The horses were remarkably trained as well. The price is VERY resonable. I definitely recommend this tour for anyone. 6 out of 5 stars easy.

My friend and I had a wonder three night stay at Hanna Stables.  In addition to our lodging and food, they arranged our transportation and activities.  They put together an incredible experience for us.

The rooms are very basic but adequate.  We are two female travel buddies in our late 40’s who usually wouldn’t opt for no a/c-rustic, but we wanted to stay at the stables and it was a great decision.  There is a beautiful stream right on the property which we swam in during the afternoon and we were not uncomfortable sleeping in the room at all; it was even a little cool.  I the morning I did a little birding, which is great down by the river.

The food was delicious and healthy.  Alex and Shelly prepared huge plates for us.  I miss their cooking and visiting with them.

We did the horseback tour to Xunantunich and I recommended it to everyone else we met in Belize.  My friend owns a barn and has been riding her whole life and I am scared of horses and have ridden twice.  They found a perfect horse for each of us.  Our guide William was knowledgeable and fun.  Riding through the jungle and then past the hot, stuffy white minivans full of tourists on our way to the site was incredible.  I wasn’t ever concerned about the horse.  It was an awesome day!  (Bring a little pocket money.  The site is very hot and there are places to buy ice cold water.  We didn’t have any cash so William bought water for us).

At night, I’d walk to the dining area and visit with whoever was there, which was everyone from Santiago, who owns Hanna Stables and is brilliant, to hostel kids coming back from a night on the town.  In real life, I generally hang out with people who are like me, so meeting Belizian farmers and tourists of all ages was a joy.

The ATM cave tour they set up for us was an unforgettable experience.  The drivers who took us back and forth to Belize City were awesome.
