Grape Bay Cottages

My husband and I stayed at Grape Bay Cottages in the ocean front cottage called Beach Home. The hosts Maria & Doug are amazing! The communication prior to going was easy, response to questions was quick! We were met at the airport by the new property manager Karen, who was also amazing and very helpful during our stay. Beach Home has a million dollar view of the ocean, the beach is gorgeous and you are just literally steps away. We spent so much of our time on the patio/porch overlooking the ocean or sitting on the beach relaxing. Everything that you could think of to make your stay enjoyable is right there for you. Two very large and comfortable bedrooms, living room with a working fireplace which we used on two chilly evenings. There is a fully equipped kitchen, nothing fancy but you have everything you need. I cooked dinners for us most evenings. A really nice grocery store is short 15-20 minute walk away! 
It was so nice to take daily walks on the beach, hear the ocean lull you to sleep each night and see magnificent sunrises each morning. Location is 5+ stars, one of the most beautiful beaches I’ve been to. Grape Bay Cottages are located in the South Shore which boasts some of the most beautiful beaches in all of Bermuda.

My sister and I visited in May of 2024 for the first time.  Well, one visit is not enough to this exceptional location and welcoming property managed by Maria and Doug.  They are wonderful hosts!  So we came back in May 2025 and explored more of the island and enjoyed the peace and tranquility of this classic Bermuda Bungalow.  We stayed in Beach Home, and looked forward to each evening drifting off to sleep with open windows and sea breezes cooling us as the waves crashed on the beach below, while the tree frogs added their notes to the evening symphony.  

By day we swam and walked the beautiful beach in the morning and set off to tour the island in the afternoon with the lovely Cal, our driver for the week.  She is a wonderful tour guide/driver.  

Another highlight was a boat tour of St. George, Castle Harbor and the string of Castle Islands - the longtails accompanied us and captivated us with their aerial flights of grace and beauty.  We rented a Boston Whaler from Grotto Bay for the day, and it was well worth it - thank you Maria for your help in making that happen with the most wonderful guide.

The cottage is comfortable and the location is exceptional.  I should mention that what we love about this cottage is that is it not a cookie cutter modern accommodation.  It is a 1930's bungalow with some updating to make it comfortable, but the charm of it's old bones, wooden floors and the porch overlooking the beautiful beach is what makes it a place you want to return to again and again.... and if we are lucky, we will do just that!

My family (son, daughter in law, and 11 year old granddaughter, and I) had a very relaxing early June get away at Beach Crest of Grape Bay Cottages in Paget, Bermuda.  The cottage has everything you need for a beach vacation. Maria Frith is a perfect and considerate hostess.  Maria goes above and beyond to support your requests and coordinate taxi transportation (highly recommended).  On your way from airport, stop at nearby Modern Mart for a rotisserie chicken, etc. The Railroad Trail is nearby and you can walk to Paraquette (locals eat there…it is a diner) and other restaurants.

My sister and I stayed at Beach Home and Maria and Doug truly made us feel at home in this wonderful 1930's beachfront cottage centrally located on a sublime beach.  We watched the parrot fish swim along the reef rocks, along with a daily visit from a spotted ray, either front the comfortable porch or sitting with chairs right on the beach.  The moonrise and sunrise each morning was a perfect way to start our day, and we viewed the milky way and shooting stars at night.  

The cottage is comfortably appointed with all you need to enjoy cooking in,  Calvalette the uberette as my sister dubbed her, otherwise known as Cal, the taxi driver is wonderfully accommodating to all of your transportation needs whether it be to grocery store nearby, local restaurants, sightseeing or whatever your transportation needs might be. 

We highly recommend talking the shore walk from Wexford Long Bay to Horseshoe Bay and then catching a cab there to LITT (Lost in the Triangle) for lunch.  There is a bus stop right there, and you can take a bus or taxi back to the cottage.

The buses and ferries are wonderful transportation alternatives, to taxis, however be warned that the walk from the cottages to the bus stop is quite hilly.  If you are a walker, it is a beautiful walk - about 15-20 to the bus stop or the rail trail.

For a great walking tour in St. George - consider History with A Twist - this is a fun informative tour conducted by Kristin White of Long Story Short.  Tea at the Perfumery in St. George is lovely too.

We can't wait to visit this magical island and enchanting cottage again, thank you Maria and Doug for sharing your cottage with my sister and I and for your warm and welcoming hospitality.  The cottage is a true gem, in a fabulous beachfront location, maintaining its roots as a 1930's Bermuda holiday cottage - warm and welcoming in it's simplicity, yet having everything you need for a memorable stay!

We stayed at Beach Home 10/2-10/7/23 with friends. They had stayed 3x prior. The location is like no other, it’s right on the beach. It’s so beautiful. It’s in the middle of the island so to get to either end you’re not going more than 35min. It’s spacious and has AC. This is not luxury accommodations, but the location is top notch. We can’t wait to go back. 

We had a fabulous time at Grape Bay Cottages. It was our second time there and won’t be our last. Maria and Douglas are very lovely and welcoming hosts and have thought of everything to make your stay wonderful. Cal’s taxi services made our stay just perfect, with her friendly and knowledgeable banter about the island. Cal also gave us great suggestions on where to go and we very much enjoyed our time with her. The beach is very private and clean. Great snorkelling right off the beach. We have stayed in both cottages and would recommend them both. 

If you are visiting Bermuda, there is no better place to stay than the Grape Bay Cottages. You cannot get a more authentic Bermudian experience than staying right on the beach, walking distance to the rail trail, grocery store, and downtown Hamilton.  Maria and Doug are super responsive and extremely helpful with tips and suggestions for what to do, see, and eat on the island. There is no other place I will ever stay when visiting Bermuda!

Just had an amazing “staycation” at Beach Home with a family member over from the U.K. Location is fantastic, could not be any closer to the secluded beach which felt almost private as there was hardly anyone else on it! Plenty of space to relax and unwind with all outdoor furniture provided. Had booked a whale watching trip to experience the annual humpback whale migration and, whilst we did see several whales on the trip, we actually saw more activity from our terrace! Not to mention the shoal of parrot fish which paid a daily visit. The owners, Doug and Maria are so accommodating and even gave us a home-baked Bermuda rum cake to get our holiday started. My in-laws, daughter, husband and I spend 7 amazing nights in the Beach Crest Cottage and never wanted to leave!  Maria and Doug are the most kind, generous hosts, presenting us with wine and rum cake upon arrival and organizing all our transport with the amazing Cal.  The views are breathtaking, the beach is empty and feels like it is all yours.  Walk to the left to find amazing tide pools for little ones to swim in.  A ten minute drive to Hamilton where you can find multiple restaurants, boat rentals, jet skiing, shopping, etc.  We never wanted to leave and hope to be back one day in paradise!

Grape Bay Cottages are one of the most unique and beautiful places in the world. The charming cottages are situated overlooking an incredible private beach with a spectacular view.  Beach Home is directly on the beach, and Beach Crest is slightly higher in elevation, providing an incredible vista over the turquoise waters of Grape Bay. I have stayed in both and they are both amazing.

The owners, Doug and Maria, are not only nice people, but they make you feel at home in their little corner of paradise. They will welcome you and ensure that you have a comfortable and flawless stay. 

I have been coming here over a period of 28 years and I still marvel at it's perfection and beauty, and appreciate the kind and accommodating hosts. If you are looking for peace and quiet in a paradise, this is the place for you. 

Having said that, Hamilton city is a quick cab ride away and there is a mini-mart within walking distance. 

Perfection, beauty, superlative relaxation is the name of the game at Grape Bay Cottages.

Champagne Sisters Encore visit!

Something that's happened in travel is that middle class people who have immaculate homes can only afford quite expensive lodgings that aren't as immaculate...so of course it's not going to be as nice as at home. But the location is amazing! The beach is right out front, and we slept with the ocean roaring in our ears, and that was absolutely spectacular. It's not a cook's kitchen, the beds are tired, the furniture is a little wonky and tired, slightly dirty here and there...but it's a great rental for the price. The beach is bliss. We managed to bake bread, make gourmet meals, and figure out the semi-sad shower. But overall, we would book again, as it's a great price for location, and where we are, these days, economically, in the world of accommodation.
