Gelskov Gods - eksklusiv Bed & Breakfast

Just kind of a dream place.... It was my birthday and we were coming directly from Falsled Kro, so Gelskov Gods had QUITE something to live up to, because coming from Falsled, which is SO famous and full of foodies, you would think it’s just downhill from there. But NO! Gelskov is a pearl, a true gem. White chalked buildings with red tiled roofs forming a U shape with a lovely courtyard in the center. I love this very Danish architecture (and Gelskov looks a lot like Damsgaard, where I grew up. So this place felt like reuniting with a dear friend). Gelskov is run sensitively yet efficiently by Heine Robert Dahl, an antiques collector dealer and he uses Gelskov as a bed and breakfast/showroom. So Gelskov is decorated with the most fabulous antiques imaginable- very French country meeting Gustavian Sweden. Gorgeous! Every room is an experience and the look is kept up in every room. Light and airy, white walls and whitewashed stripped floors are perfect frames for gilded 14 foot mirrors, candelabras and chandeliers, statues (both inside and outside in the delightful courtyard). You walk through room after room, gasping. And if you love the chair you are sitting in or the madonna statue in your windowsill, chances are they are for sale. Our room was a large room, pale cool mint green walls, and again, the best interior! Four big windows opening up to the courtyard, the quiet motion of water in the fountain below and the light Danish night rolling in. Delicious pillows and comforters. If you are a Dane like me, the quality of your bedding, especially your duvet comforter sets the standard for the place. Next morning, breakfast. Delish, and consumed in the incredibly charming old kitchen. Heine is a wonderful host, easygoing and fun. He lives with his wife in one of the side buildings. I’m not sure how many guest bedrooms Gelskov has, but the ones I peeked into were also wonderful, stylish and cozy. That’s exactly what Gelskov is: incredibly stylish and even majestic, you can imagine visiting a noble relative. BUT it’s also very informal and super cozy. Heine and Gelskov have managed that combination perfectly. Couldn’t recommend more. Cash only (when we were there at least, actually July 2017).
