My husband and I have been to many villages / towns in Austria and the Tirol but this was our first visit to Kitzbuhel. We spent 2 nights at the Gasthof between a stay in Munich and a 5 night stay in Berchtesgaden. We booked on the strength of the one good review on TA and we were not disappointed. My only regret was that we didn't have more time to stay longer!

The Gasthof is way up on the mountainside about 1km from the village. The climb in the car was well worth it. The views, the hospitality and the atmosphere were really something else!

We were welcomed into the beautiful, old house by Elizabeth, Sepp and Bernhard (Family Frauscher) and shown to our room. The 'room' turned out to be a suite (all 'rooms' are suites), set out in true Austrian style and with a balcony all around, to facilitate appreciation of the wonderful, wonderful views over the valley!

The beds were Austrian style, large and comfortable. There was a terrific storm during the first night and we had a fantastic view of this over the valley, from the balcony of our room. If you enjoy star-gazing, the night sky will blow you away too.

We opted for half board, which was tasty and good value for money (3 courses). The dining area was perfect, if like us, you love the warm, cosy atmosphere that Austrian houses seem to offer. In particular we loved the wooden furniture and the green stove! Bar drinks were reasonably priced and the house wine was good. If you wanted to, you could take the 'a-la-carte' option, as many did, and enjoy traditional fayre (such as Spatzle and Grostl). Breakfasts were also excellent and served at the table (good selection of bread, cheeses, meats, preserves and eggs if we wished).

I cannot recommend this place highly enough.
