We had a room in the “historical section” it was exactly the kind of accommodation we love, a step back in time but with all the modern conveniences! Underfloor heating in the bathroom, a bathtub with the shower over, great water pressure & really hot water ( be warned the water pressure is very strong) comfortable bed with amazing doonas.

This hotel was lovely for our overnight stay in Flam. Such a beautiful, scenic location. Old in many ways but still so very nice and comfortable. The location was ideal. The included breakfast was amazing. Our room was comfortable and it had a bath tub which we enjoyed using.

We had such an amazing visit to the Fretheim Hotel. We booked a “romance package” in the tower suite. I was concerned that the room could be grungy or feel cluttered, since it was so large and decorated, but it was spotless. Staff was incredibly welcoming, warm, and friendly. The included 7 course dinner was delicious. It was, however, more food than I could eat in 3 days! Our server was delightful and made us feel so, so welcome.

I am so thankful to everyone at this hotel for welcoming us to this beautiful place. This was one of the most special, memorable nights of my life. And hope to return again someday.

Well run with great staff. Buffet dinner and breakfast were great with lots of variety and delicious. Set back a little from water with beautiful garden. Historic room had a bath which was lovely but the shower above the bath was a bit tricky with water going everywhere and would be difficult to access if you had any sort of mobility issue. We found the staff super helpful and friendly. Would definitely recommend.

First: The staff in this hotel is very friendly and I felt very welcome.

Just had a 2 night stay at this hotel which was great. The hotel is 2 mins from the train, flam is a very small very quiet place this time of year which is fantastic. We eat in the hotel the 1 night & omg the food was out of this world & the breakfast was brilliant, because the hotel was quiet they cooked the breakfast to order. 

There is a lovely fire place in the reception area which is very cosy to warm up & have a drink by.

Beautiful building, very comfortable room and bed, good food, and a very responsive and friendly staff.  I stayed 2 nights in mid-October. Although the skies were generally overcast I managed to avoid any significant rain and the sun even made an occasional appearance. Temperatures were chilly, but not uncomfortably so. The included breakfast was very good with many selections to assuage both North American as well as European tastes. I ate dinner once at the hotel's restaurant at it was very good. They offered an a-la-cart menu and an expansive buffet. (I chose the buffet at it was great.) The staff at the front desk and the restaurant were uniformly friendly, courteous, and responsive. If I'm ever fortunate enough to be in Flam again, I would definitely stay here.

Lovely hotel with emphasis on service.  Clean and comfortable, the hotel fits right in to its visually overwhelming natural setting.   The food was surprisingly delicious.  The waiters were most attentive and professional.   We highly  recommend a stay here. 

Accommodation was highly satisfactory.  Comfortable common area. Friendly and helpful staff. Reasonable price. Would return. Adequate parking available. Highly recommended especially for the convenience of being in walking distance of railroad and shopping.

We stayed in this hotel for one night as we traveled the Scandinavian countries with Collette Travel Agency. The hotel was conveniently located as we rode the Flam Railroad and enjoyed the beauty. The only drawback was WiFi. We had to sit in the lobby to have access to WiFi.

Lovely room

Stayed for one night on route through Norway. There’s not many places to stay in Flåm , this is one of two places. It’s traditional but clean and comfy . You can’t check in until 4pm so be warned. The restaurant was a bit of a surprise, in that the food is really fab as is the breakfast …. Set right by the lake you get the most beautiful view

Best of limited options in a small place

This hotel was a pleasant surprise as it was such a nice hotel. Our room was very nice and had plenty of room .  This is a real tourist area and has lots of stores to buy keepsakes. We only spent one night at this hotel and we did not eat at the hotel - we found out later that we should of ate at the hotel as there is not alot of restaurants in this small town. In all we really liked this hotel.

Flam visit

Good views from the room's terrace. The bed was comfortable and the shower was fine.
It has a good breakfast but it was  missing some things the other hotels we've stayed at in Norway had. No cooked vegetables, no "energy shots" and the coffee machines only dispense coffee and hot water - no cappuccino, etc.


Convenient location 

The hotel location is superb as just a couple of minutes from the harbour and train station. It was extremely quiet - as expected at this time of year - however the staff were friendly and attentive throughout. The room had a balcony with a lovely view but Flam is such a beautiful scenic place everywhere you go is magical. The dinner menu was limited but what they produced was excellent.

Cosy hotel

This was a lovely place to stay. We enjoyed the cosy nooks around the hotel to rest and the decor was top notch. This created an amazing chalet/winter/cosy feel. Beds were comfortable and the room was clean. Service was friendly and professional. It is situated in an absolutely stunning backdrop - we were surrounded by snow capped mountains, amazing fjords, and sparkly lights. The Flamsbana RR was a mere 5 minute walk away so that was handy.

While breakfast was really good, dinner was not. Our friend had to return her food to the kitchen due to being uncooked. Others at the table were satisfied so it may have been a one-time thing. It was handled in a very professional manner. We had a snow storm come through during our stay so the pathways were a bit icy - suggest clearing this better so folks do not fall. 

Cosy hotel near Flamsbana

Highly recommend for your next visit to Flam, although there aren’t too many choices in Flam. Room was very nice. Staff extremely hospitable. The breakfast was nice. The buffet dinner was adequate - although again, not too many choices. The bartender recommended quality, local cocktails, which were delicious. Some rooms only have a bathtub (no shower) so make sure to confirm your room and bathroom preference. Our room has a balcony, which we didn’t use. 

Flam is beautiful and we were fortunate to be there without a cruise ship. I understand it gets very crowded when a cruise ship arrives.
