Flåmsbrygga Hotel 

We traveled by Norled ferry from Bergen to Flam, with a one-night stay at the Flamsbrygga. The hotel is perfectly situated on beautiful Sognefjord, and we chose a fjord-view room. We went in October, and the autumn scenery was fantastic! It was easy to book our stay online months in advance. Our stay was amazing from the minute we arrived. Before booking, we carefully checked the cruise port schedule to ensure our visit would not be impacted by thousands of passengers and an oppressively-sized ship blocking views. The room was cozy and comfortable, especially the bed, and the bathroom was spacious. The hotel staff were uniformly friendly, professional, and accommodating. The room rate included breakfast – and what a breakfast! This one was sumptuous even by generous Norwegian standards! The buffet was stocked with an astounding number of cooked choices, fresh fruit, bread, and sweets. We stuffed ourselves! It was an easy walk from the ferry to the hotel. Flam is very small, but we did manage a good walk on one of the local hiking trails; we’d love to stay here again and explore further. Flam is a magical place and well worth a stop on your Norway itinerary, as long as you don’t have to share it with 5,000 other visitors all at once! Flam Tips: The best advice we took for visiting Flam is this: DO NOT GO WHEN CRUISE SHIPS ARE THERE! Check the cruise port schedules ahead of time and plan your visit accordingly. Having a cruise ship in port in Flam will spoil the experience. We enjoyed the Norled ferry from Bergen to Flam, but like others, feel you can see better scenery on a fjord driving trip than the Flamsbana Railroad. Even if you need to travel onward by train, consider taking the ferry back to Bergen and taking the train from there. The Flamsbana was a chaotic, overcrowded, and overrated experience not worth the extra money; the ferry was much more enjoyable with better scenery. Myrdal Station has poor to non-existent crowd control.
