decent hostel with nice decoration and clean, comfortable rooms. we liked the general feel of the place and appreciated the mostly friendly staff, who were very forthcoming with advice and recommendations for what to do in the area.

it's okay

This hostel is one of the top rated in its price range and I’m not entirely sure why. It’s nice enough particularly the pool but the breakfast is below average and the location is nothing special, neither is the hostel itself. Completely befuddled by the cleaner too, he does a thorough job of sweeping the floor but puts the whole hostel at a stand still while he does it! Moves all the furniture so there is no where to sit if you are up and about to sweep the common area. Then turns the light on in the dorm and moves all the bags on to the beds (often occupied by sleeping guests as this is done around 10am!) Bizarre. You need a decent grasp of Spanish too. 

Overrated

We had booked two beds for four nights via Booking.com but when we arrived, they said they only had the information for 1 booking, even though at the top of their page it clearly said it was for two beds. Consequently, because they were fully booked and we didn't want to walk 12 blocks to the nearest hostel, the employee got the manager on the phone and I got her to let us share a single bed for $5 each (as opposed to the regular price of $8). However, the other three people in the 4-bed room we were in didn't turn up, so basically we were sharing a bed in a 4-bed with empty beds! Not a good start to the stay. 
The breakfast is good and it stays out much longer than advertised – it says it's on till 11-12ish but some days it was still out at 2pm. Also, the ambiance of the hostel is great and because of the garden, it really doesn't feel like you're in the middle of a city. 
On our last day, the wifi stopped working, which was a bit of a problem because we needed to get our boarding passes for our flight the following day. They appeared to try and fix it but nothing changed. But we managed to go to a nearby park which has free wifi which works reasonably well. 
However, I feel that despite these little drawbacks, it is an amazing hostel and I would recommend it. 

Great hostel but a few disappointments

Nice ambiance with a European touch. Kitchen like at home. Friendly staff. It took some time to adjust to a power cut that last from 3 PM to 1 AM while there seemed to be power at the apartment buildings nearby. Next time ensure the candles are not placed under a matrass. Still I felt best in this hostel after moving three times from other hostels in the city!

Garden hostel indeed

Really a beautiful hostel with a lovely garden. The kitchen is nice, the bathrooms clean, and the beds are comfortable enough. Cons are the broken AC and the unreliable staff. Twice during my short stay I arrived at the hostel during the day only to find there was no staff present to let me in (and they don't provide keys to let yourself in). During one of these instances, I was not let in for 30 minutes because the attendant was "spending time with his girlfriend" in one of the rooms. Annoying.
