This place is an experience in itself. Historical building, which used to be an orphanage, now it is a very special hotel. Conveniently located in the city center it offers a good breakfast and clean rooms.

Clean, filled with history and good breakfast

Check in was terrible. Young girl in reception didn't know where is my room in the building. Very old and dirty building, it should be a museum not a hotel. Rust in shower cabin. Leaky wooden windows. No airconditioning. Value for money - very unfavourable.

Never again

Let’s all stop pretending we live in palaces. A 3x3 metre room with tasteful “shabby chic” decor and private bathroom is better than I can offer my visitors in my 5-bedroom house in West London. And my visitors are always complimentary. 

The room was clean, smelt fresh and was bright and comfortable. It cost about a third of the price of the anonymous business hotel I used the previous night. Breakfast was unlimited self-serve in a nearby canteen with and perfectly fine. 
I booked for one night and stayed for two. 

I lived for five years in a monastic school in England. This all felt rather familiar - but luxurious by comparison. 

Pros: It’s right in the heart of the old town. It’s a historic, pretty building which everyone stops to photograph. I used to sit on my deep windowsill pretending to be a local and looking down on the action. 

Cons: It’s right in the heart of the old town. So expect a bit of noise at night despite the double windows.  

And reviewers, lay off the young guys who man the desk. They are not unfriendly, they are just Latvian - and they do a perfectly good job.  If you want everyone to pretend they’re your best friend, go to Disneyland. 


Remarkably good value. 

If you are looking for a city hotel close to all attractions and low fares this hotel is for you. There is not much else in terms of confort. A French bed and an old building in big need of a refurbishment is far from the three stars boasted by this hotel ensconced between a restaurant and other hotels. Breakfast room is shared with other restaurants in the backyard. Description says that "Hotel offers a wealth of pubs, golf courses and bars to suit any taste or budget" and a swimming pool! Far from true! There is no bar, no hall, no sitting room, entrance is hard to see from the street. 

Disappointing

em novembro reservei um apartamento no Historical Ekes Konvents 1435 Hotel. cheguei ao quarto, era péssimo, a casa de banho tinha uma ventoinha que estava a fazer barulho, um barulho estridente. Pedi outro quarto, pois saberia que não conseguia dormir ali. Não havia mais quartos diposníveis. pedi para falar com o gerente não estava disponível. a atitude da empregada foi péssima! peguei nas minhas coisas e procurei o primeiro hotel que encontrei e fui-me embora dali. passado um bocado o gerente "que supostamente" não estava disponível começou a ligar-me a acusar-me de estar a cometer fraude. expliquei-lhe tudo. disse que estava a cometer fraude e que ia fazer queixa às autoridade. expliquei-lhe sempre a situação e ele contínuou sempre com a mesma postura. estava sozinha, tive medo e acabei a pagar-lhe 147 euros por um quarto onde não dormi!

In November I booked an apartment at the Historical Ekes Konvents 1435 Hotel. I got to the room, it was terrible, the bathroom had a fan that was making a noise, a shrill noise. I asked for another room because I would know I couldn't sleep there. There were no further bedrooms. I asked to speak to the manager was not available. The maid's attitude was terrible! I picked up my things and searched for the first hotel I found and left. after a while the manager who was supposedly unavailable started calling me accusing me of committing fraud. I explained everything to him. He said he was committing fraud and was going to complain to the authorities. I always explained the situation to him and he always went on with the same stance. I was alone, I was afraid and I ended up paying her 147 euros for a room where I didn't sleep!

Horrible Place

Hotel is very centrally located. However, it's a little difficult to find on arrival. The sign is small and entrance through a wooden door. We had no issues with our reservation, even though we arrived after 11pm. Staff available 24/7 and friendly. Front door is locked after midnight, but just ring the bell to get in. 
We tried the breakfast in the hotel around the corner. It was okay, but coffee wasn't great. 
The hotel has some quirky sitting areas in the old fire places. The room and bathroom were both adequate. However, the bed was very loud, even just sitting down on it. This is not good if you are a light sleeper or after a romantic break. Our room was otherwise very quiet. 
Hotel is a good option for friends on a budget looking for central location. 

Very central location, but not romantic

While the location is very central and convenient, and there is a bar, here are a few bewares: avoid ground and first floor because of noisy passers-by. As there is no AC you'll have a window open, sound and smoke drift in, plus we have tour groups passing our window (amazed how loud they speak!). Also, the lack of length of the shower curtain means our bathroom gets flooded when we have a shower, which results in a teenager reluctantly giving you a towel to mop up with. Breakfast, with the usual, but apparently very nice porridge, is again staffed by teens on work experience, it seems.

Avoid ground floor, no AC

We had a very bad experience at this ‘historical hotel’ (it is a hostel really – a dilapidated old house with no restaurant or bar on-site – it’s no surprise the picture shown is taken at night). 
On arrival, we were told that they didn’t have a booking for us which was clearly a lie as they had already acknowledged it. Then they said they had space for the first two nights but not for the third night of our booking as they had a block booking (Riga is famous for stag weekends) so we would have to leave on the Friday. Normally the hotelier in these circumstances would acknowledge their error (or intention in this case) of making a double booking and arrange another hotel for us at their expense. Instead they gave us 50 euros back but the replacement hotel cost nearer 100. 
So far so bad. Their comments to us after we left a poor review were as follows: 
‘Next time you can stay at home’
And
‘We explained you why we can’t honour this reservation, I guess you are too old to understand’
It’s true they did explain their reason – it was that they had taken a more lucrative booking, so they threw us out.
The childish response from the young guys who run this hostel demonstrates that it may be suitable for stag parties for under 25-year olds but for the over 25’s and for people with any taste – AVOID.

AVOID

Like several others have already described, this place is run by scammers. I also booked a room for 20 €/night (thought naively that perhaps it's a special offer and I got lucky). A few weeks later got a message that the price is actually 70 €/night, but I would get a 20€ discount if I wrote a good review here in advance (so still +30 €/night). When I asked to confirm if this was for real, they replied rudely and kept on trolling for a while. Naturally I cancelled, and thanks to airbnb got a full refund.

So here is my "good" review: save yourself the trouble and keep away from this place!

Scam alert!

I had made a booking for this hotel on AirBnb in May for my trip in August. The price per night mentioned was EUR 20 which I paid in full. 

After 3 weeks I get a message from the property that to confirm booking I have to give a positive review prior to checkin and the per night rate is now EUR 70. I will get a EUR 20 discount if I give a positive review. 

I am now sending messages back and forth to AirBnb and the property. The property has conveyed that I have chosen to make part payment while booking the hotel (I have not. I have receipt for the same). Even now the price per night for a new booking on AirBnb is EUR 20. 

There are similar issues highlighted by many people in this forum. 

This property should be removed from all online booking sites. Very unprofessional and unethical.
