Dream Home Hostel 1

Vientiane

A place worth stopping by in the capital Vientiane. They are friendly, of great help for my own and others’ trip. The receptionist is always on hand to help. Very nice to talk about, nhân viên thân thiện.give for me in an understandable way. Comfortable bed

Great hostel

Worst hostel I’ve ever stayed at. Women behind the desk seemed extremely rude almost 75% of the time. The beds were noisy, uncomfortable and walls in the room were filthy. The toilets and showers were below average. There is a photo on trip adviser showing a swimming pool, there is no pool here.

I didn't stay here so I can't speak to the accommodations, but I did rent a motorbike for 100,000 kip a day. They keep your passport while you have the bike, which is standard in Laos.  I appreciated the helpful staff who made my motorbike rental for local use for 2-days easy.

Friendly and helpful staff

We booked a double room to stay for 2 nights. Upon arrival the staff behind reception were rude and couldn’t have made it any more obvious that they really did not want to be there! The room was awful, the window didn’t shut properly so it let in bugs and the bed was uncomfortable. 

Now I’m a very hygienic person but the shower / toilets really put me off wanting to wash!! I obviously did but shared my shower my numerous mosquitos! 

This isn’t the worst part. I woke up to the sound of water being thrown around at 5.30am on our last night and assumed someone was in the shower but it the cleaner was cleaning the toilets. I went to the toilets in my flip flops so I didn’t get wet feet and the woman threw all the water off the side where the sinks were over my feet, thanks! Because of this when I stepped out the bathroom I slipped and landed on my knee which caused a huge swelling and bruise which still hasn’t gone down after one week. Thanks for such a pleasant wake up call! No one offered help and mumbled something to each other.

Worst hostel I’ve stayed in 

On first arrival I thought it was a nice and sociable place, there is a decent sized pool table and everyone is friendly. There is also free breakfast and vodka from 8:00- 10pm. However the showers and bathrooms are all communal. Not only that but I reckon there are nicer bathrooms in the depths of Africa. Then to move onto the room, what can I say, I was in Laos walking up to the room, then when I entered my private 4 bed room with my mates, we left Laos and seemed to have moved countries to Syria... not impressed, terrible window which let huge mosquitoes into the room, beds were uncomfortable and the floor board was coming apart. I’m no carpenter but I could’ve done a better job with those floors. But for one night, I guess I survived. 2 stars it is. 

Thought I was in two different countries.

3 months travel in Asia and the worst accommodation so far.

Stayed at Dream Home Hostel in the 4 bed dormitory whilst in Vientiane for a total of 2 nights.

This property’s location is not that great, however plenty of tuk tuks are right out the front door that will easily get you around. Trust me, they will make themselves known to you every time you leave this Hostel. 

Staff speak good english however staff here are not friendly.

This Hostel is not clean at all in my opinion, Toilets and showers get very dirty as it’s used by a lot of people and not cleaned often. Many mosquitoes in the shower area. If you wish for a towel it will cost you 10,000 kip. Linen is clean, however the bed and pillow is very uncomfortable. 

Explicit Graffiti is all over the walls, even with notices demanding no one to write on the walls, this notice it posted on every door in the hostel and prominently in the bathroom areas.

Laundry service is available at 10,000 kip per 1kg. However we did not receive every item back and these could not be found.

Aircon was unable to be turned off in our dorm as the remote control has been lost. WIFI at this location is very slow and mostly no connection at all. Lockers are located under the bed, however it’s not very secure and most are already damaged.

Free breakfast till 10am, with 1x selection from the a la carte menu, plus a tea or coffee. Basic but pretty good, I had pancakes with strawberry jam and a banana.

I cannot recommend this hostel as it is way to noisy, poor conditions, offensive writing on the walls, extremely messy and unorganised, very unhygienic, uncomfortable, so many mosquitoes in the dorms and shower areas. Forget about this place.

Dirty, Messy, Uncomfortable - DON’T STAY HERE

After reading all the bad comments about this hostel we expected the worst. 

Actually this hostel is not bad at all. Good breakfast, good atmosphere and OK beds. The bedrooms are not nice, but you’ve the only thing you need, a OK bed. The toilets and showers are not very fresh, but the still work.

I would absolutely recommend this hostel if you’re on a low budget.

Over our expectations 

Have stayed in my fair share of cheap backpacker hostels and wouldn’t say I am a snob in any way, but, we physically couldn’t stay here more than one night and had to check out a day early.  

The walls, beds and boarded up window made the place feel like some sort of prison. 
We weren’t able to alter the air con as they took away the remote and so had to sleep in a roasting hot room.  
The bathroom/showers weren’t the cleanest and spotted a few bugs. 
The staff were pretty rude when we asked to leave (although they kindly refunded our money for the second night which we weren’t actually expecting)

If you want somewhere that’s cheap, is in a relatively good location, has a nice breakfast  and you’re not staying longer than one night... then this might be your place. If not then I would avoid if possible. Please don’t believe the fake reviews on hostelworld/booking.com this place is not 10/10.
