Great stay for hiking the tongariro alpine crossing. Get the discovery lodge earliest own shuttle service for an amazing experience hiking the track before the big run of tourists start. Had an amazing experience with marvolous sunrise at the top. Stayed in the private cabins with great view on the vulcanos. For all loving to hike I can recommend this lodge.

Chalet was clean, comfy and spacious. Such an indulgence for the price with amazing view, heating and comfy bed.
New bathroom with great hot water  pressure.
Well stocked kitchen with full sized fridge, kettle and microwave.
Highly recommend the early shuttle to the Crossing by Callum and pick up by Miki.
Its clear these owners are passionate about the area and people using the park safely and responsibly. Will return again and stay here as my first choice.

Given the unrivaled proximity to the Crossing and the range of accommodation (suiting all comfort levels and budgets) available, it’s hard to believe that anyone presented with all the facts would choose to stay anywhere else.  
Callum and his team do a terrific job of providing guests with essential knowledge for a serious Alpine adventure. Their flawless safety record over 20 years is underpinned by experience and a readiness to cancel the shuttles (with full refunds) any time the weather demands - and by a refusal to take guests whose clothing could expose them if the weather turns nasty.  Which it did, on my crossing, as an apparently fine day with great forecast turned into a sub-zero hike accompanied by a gale and freezing cloud. 
We stayed in one of the one-bedroom chalets - fabulous, spacious, and very well laid out.

Discovery lodge is one of the calmest campsites that we have stayed in New Zealand. Right next to the volcano and the ice capped peak, the sunrise from the park is stunning. 

One of the highlights of the park is the water which is supposed to be from the mountains. Tastes sweet and crisp. 



Lovely caravane Park, good location with a wonderfull landscape.
Good equipement and good kitchen and bathrooms. Very clean.
The staff is very nice! We booked the bus for the alpine crossing very late and that was not a problem, they do their best for you.
We really recommend this place, there no WiFi but there is also a very good restaurant and bar 5 minutes driving where you have free wifi

We just had an amazing experience staying at Discovery Lodge. The surrounding is so peaceful and the view is spectacular especially at sunset and 4am in the morning when on a clear night you could see all the stars. The shuttle drivers were helpful, on time, friendly and humble. The chalet was tastefully decorated, modern and very clean. We highly recommend the Tongaririo Crossing experience and staying at Discovery, one of the closest accommodations to the crossing as well as the ski area for winter.

Our Chalet was clean & modern with a stunning view of the mountain.  Callum is very knowledgeable and helpful with so many tips for our walk. Both Callum and Miki were welcoming and friendly with lots of information on other activities in the area. The early morning shuttle was perfect and made it exciting to start our walk in the dark. Would definitely recommend staying at Discovery Lodge.

We have stayed with Discovery Lodge a few times already & I have to say we never disappointed with this place & people. Callum & Miki are super awesome people. They always have time for a quick chat in a super friendly manner & also their local knowledge is great. 

We took their early shuttle service to the crossing starting point; which makes everything much more enjoyable as we can be a few hours ahead of a lot of people. Also, I have managed to capture a stunning sunrise with beautiful colours. The room we were staying in is a little bit dated but super clean & tidy. 

I love to highly recommend Discovery Lodge as each time we had a great experience. We are looking forward to coming back & do camping with our kids next summer. Thank you so much & all the very best Callum & Miki! 😍🙏🏽

Callum is very knowledgeable and helpful. He is the only service that leaves early so you can enjoy the crossing without the crowds. He gives practical info (his blog is fab) so you know you have the right gear and will be safe. He does early pick ups too so you get back to wherever you are staying early. I highly recommend the shuttle service!

Very good experience we recommend this place!

By the photos, I originally thought that the chalet was located below the mountain for viewing purposes, but it is in fact quite a distance away and there was a highway between us. So I was a little disappointed at first. However, the chalet was lovely and it was in such a good location to drive, as it only took 10 minutes up to the mountain. The chalet was modern, warm, spacious and clean. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay there.
