Great RETRO hotel with a lot of Charme. There are several modern and luxury hotels in Chisniau but only one place with well preserved soviet architecture and design. 
You get an authentic experience with vintage furniture but everything is spotless clean and working.
Very friendly staff from professional check, charming housekeeping ladies and the Breakfast with perfect Italian coffee. 
Wifi is strong and reliable, take a room with the view to the square with the monument to the fascist German occupation. 
Look out for the wonderful details like the iconic Elektronika 7
Clicks over the entrance. Enjoy the smell of freshly baked pastry in the lobby.
Have a journey back in time in walking distance to the beautiful railway stations with trains to Iasi and Bukarest.
Great Londons steakhouse 2 minutes walk, take some steps to government and business centre.

Wonderful Retro Soviet Jewel of a hotel!

On their homepage it says: "It's like visiting your granny, not modern, but clean, warm and relaxing". True! I don't agree with those comparing this with old Soviet hotels. It may be built in that period, but they lacked warmth and service. I think their own description gives a good account of the place, but myself I describe it purely as a "great experience". The welcome at the front desk was just great, lovely woman. I was upgraded as I'd arrived one day late due to flight cancellation but promised to pay for what I'd reserved. I was also warned that it might take some time before warm water comes from the shower as they're connected to the city's warm water. It's good that I was warned as otherwise I'd thought that there's no warm water as it really took 5-10 minutes to reach the fourth floor. The room was big and spacy and everything was functioning although it looked outdated. The A/C was modern and worked also as a heater. Everything was clean. The hotel really have no special facilities except the bar by the entrance. Breakfast was included in the low price and it was served in the same building, but you had to go out from the main entrance and in from another door. Before you went there you had to choose your breakfast out of three options and receive a ticket from the reception. Simple dishes. The breakfast room was in the same style decorated with old pictures from times passed. They also serve a daily two-course business lunch for just a couple of euro. Maybe the best deal in town. Only downside of the breakfast was that it didn't open before eight. Well, if you need to leave earlier, they can fix it for you. They'd made me three sandwiches the morning I checked out. The location is also great, a couple of malls and several good restaurants in the neighbourhood. The nearby huge park is perfect for morning running. I shall return!



Nostalgia

This is a slightly faded, tired old hotel but those are the ones I prefer.  Don't stay here if you want boring predictability and luxury. However, it is very clean, the rooms are spacious, air conditioned and have a fridge freezer (if you have one of the semi lux ones). It is not expensive. It is a comfortable and central place to stay and the trolleybus from the airport stops very close so it is easy to get to without the hassle of taxis.  I enjoyed the ambience and found the staff very helpful. Yes it takes a while for the hot water to get through the pipes, but it is no worse than Bucharest!

Full of character and comfortable

This isn’t a fancy hotel in any way, but still I felt very comfortable and welcome.
The hotel was probably modern some time before I was born but that is also what makes it worth visiting, great value for money, friendly and a first hand view into old times.

Old, a bit worn, but friendly and warm

Good stay at the Chisinau Hotel. Good location. Good rates. Good service. Older building. Convenient parking and transfer area.  Breakfast was simple and plain. Interesting architecture. Grand old building with large marble staircase.

Passing through Chisinau 

Very old, rooms are very sad, can definitely use an upgrade. Old blanket, super old fridge. Bathroom is very grimy, hot water takes 20min to get warm. Walls are very thin, you can hear everything going on in the hallway. Three breakfast choices, not nearly filling enough. Reception is not very helpful.

old soviet air

I spent a night here and the hotel was clean, and the room was adequate. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The hotel gives you an idea of what the Soviet era hotels were like and even if the decor is maybe not that up to date, I think the Hotel Chisinau has more character than the majority of the corporate chains. Great value for money, but most certainly not everyone’s cup of tea.

Trip down memory lane 

Checking out of this place in about 5 and a half hours. Welcome to the Hotel Chisinau - guaranteed to give you the creeps. 

Came here yesterday after booking it on Booking website. Was in Odessa in a delightful little hotel at the time. I seem to recall that some people rated this place as superb. I'd like to meet them, I've got a bridge in central London I could sell them. On the Booking site it lists facilities including air conditioning. Guess what Blondie told us on checking in "Err conditioning no. Standard double room not have." Well they need to make that information clear on Booking then don't they. 

The hotel has a musty smell. When you enter the entrance door there is a faint odour of feline urine. That says it all really. 

The elevator is tiny and in my view dangerous. It doesn't have proper instructions inside in English and nor does it have the traditional buttons to press to close the doors or to keep them open. You can fit two people in with suitcases. Even so the elevators creaked and groaned like they were going to give up the ghost. 

There are no smoke detectors in corridors or rooms. The one fire extinguisher I saw on our corridor was tiny. I didn't check the date on the sticker to see when it was last serviced but may do on my way out. 

The room was grim. Different shades of beige. A tin of white paint would really brighten the place up. Paint is not expensive.

The twin beds were covered with scratchy blankets. The dimensions of the beds were small. I am six foot - so not the biggest bear in the woods. My shoulders are almost as wide as the bed. My feet touch the wooden end of the bed. My.11 year old son is 5 ft 2 and he virtually filled the bed. So very interesting sleeping experience. Or lack of sleeping. Beds are not that expensive. 

I could care less about TVs but you know some people may want to watch. The TV is an old fashioned lump sat on a low table. The local electrical supermarket up the street BOMBA has 32 inch flat screen Sakura TVs for 1999 of the local currency. 18 is one USD so that's a little over one hundred bucks. A wall bracket is buttons. It would be easy to mount a flat screen TV on the wall so both parties could see it clearly.

The bathroom has no shower curtain so it's inevitable that the floor gets wet. No bathroom floor mats or floor towels and a floor that does not slope or drain correctly means a dangerous slippery floor. Nearly fell over a couple of times. 

Air conditioning - They need to update the details on Booking so that you know in advance that only a deluxe room comes with a.c. We didn't have the option to upgrade because the few rooms with it had been booked.  Guess what though they provide a single standing fan which is inadequate for a twin room at the height of summer which.is why I am typing this at 2am lying back on a pillow soaked in my sweat. 

Guess what - Bomba up the street is selling standing fans for 11 USD. Plus brand new a.c. units at 2999 local currency. Which is about 160 USD. Put another 10 bucks on the cost of the nightly rate and you get the purchase cost back within just over two weeks. Then from then on the additional ten bucks covers the increased electric cost. So why not start a rolling programme of renovation? Say do 4 rooms a month. Fix the floor tiling in bathroom so they dry. Install air conditioning units. Brighten the rooms up and put larger beds in with blankets that.provide some comfort. Within  a year they would have renovated 48 rooms here with higher rack rate and more positive reviews on this and other websites. It's not that hard. Really. I work in facilities management in Cambodia and if we can make things work properly there then the owners of this place can make it work here. Unless they don't care. Which sadly is.probably the problem. Which is a shame as you could turn this place around with a bit of effort. 

The fridge - it worked sort of.
