Château du Grand Bouchet

This is a fabulous combination of a beautiful, traditional French château in peaceful country, with all the amenities and conveniences one could wish for for a stay of a few days or longer. We would gladly have stayed longer and would definitely return if we go back to the area. The proximity to the major châteaux in the Loire valley is a real bonus

My wife and I spend a week here during July 19.  It allowed us a space to relax after hectic Paris and a centre to explore the Loire Valley. I can only be complimentary of the hosts and the accommodation.  Bring two we occupied a spacious apartment on the 1st floor if the castle with bedroom, living room, kitchen and a grand bathroom.  When not exploring the nearby castle s the spacious grounds allowed us opportunity to walk around the castle.  Definitely a recommendation for a stay in the Loire Valley.  

The Chateau du Grand Bouchet is a charming place for a holiday provided that you like space and quiet and are not too concerned with the standard of accommodation. It also works really well for kids.

We stayed in La Maison du Jardinier, a three-bedroom cottage, and there are other options.

The cottage is charming, comfortable and perfectly large enough, but with just one bathroom (upstairs, no shower) and one toilet (downstairs), there are a few compromises. The kitchen is functional and reasonably well equipped. Surprisingly, the wifi works well and you have 4G coverage outside.

You're left well alone and it feels private.

The gardens and grounds are great. It must be two or three acres with a great variety of mature trees and plants - very nice to just spend time in.

The pool (10 or 12m) is clean and well kept, with a few toys and inflatables in good condition. It's shared by all the guests but is not busy - we usually had it to ourselves.

For kids, there are two small play areas (one slides, swings and sandpit, one trampoline and table tennis). Even better, backing onto the Chateau grounds is a kids play park/ soft play (www.lavalleedesrois.com) that 3-12 year olds will love. As these things go it's very good (lots to do, safe, clean, good visibility, not too busy), and as a parent you can sit and have a coffee in relative peace. It's a great option for wet or very hot days.

In other words, kids will think this is the best place ever.

It's very quiet but you're ten minutes drive from the big shops on the outskirts of Tours, and bang in the middle of the big historic Chateaux - 15 minutes to Villandry, 30 to Rigny-Usse or Azay-le-Rideaux, 45 to Chinon, Chenonceaux etc.

There is a quiet bike path right along the Cher if you like to ride or run, which involves just five minutes on the already fairly quiet road to reach (cycling-loire.com).

There are good restaurants in Savonnieres (ten minutes) and elsewhere around.

My husband and I had the pleasure of staying at this beautiful Chateau in the Loire Valley. The owners were absolutely delightful, even asking us to join them for a glass of champagne on our last night. The room itself was extremely spacious, clean and very comfortable.  The location is perfect as it is not far from Tours and the surrounding countryside is just beautiful. The breakfast is extremely generous and fresh. It was definitely a highlight of our time in France. Thank you Dominique.

Our party of 4 spent a week here in July. The rooms are spacious, the grounds are beautiful and there is a lovely swimming pool on site. We went fully self-catered, the kitchen was large with big fridges and freezers – but it was lacking in some utensils (large chopping boards/sharp knifes etc.). There is a washing machine downstairs in the utility room which is also available to use. The owners were very helpful and accommodating. There is a good supermarket in Ballan-Miré (Simply Market, Co-ords: 47.343294, 0.614858), which is about a 10 minute drive away. Note of warning – there are only a few restaurants in the surrounding area (Villandry/Savonnières), and some of them are only open for a couple of days a week, and often close early.
