Casa Da Chandeirinha

This summer we toured the Historic villages of Interior Portugal and stayed here. This is a home owned by a member of the Portuguese aristocracy, so you get a slight feel for history here (the huge property with wonderful vista, the coat of arms above the fireplace). But alas, since the aristocracy has been in serious decline, tourists and commoners are now afforded first-hand glances and these old homes and Portugal is a really great country for this with so many pousadas and homes such as this one. The house was very comfortable, the lady in charge was great and took care of every need (note that there isn't 24-hour concierge, she does not live on the property and leaves for the night). The breakfast was very good and the entire place incredibly clean. The room was beautiful as everything was restored lovingly. Our private bathroom in the bedroom did not, however, have a door (only closed off with curtains). Could be a little awkward if you have older kids staying in the room with you. There is a swimming pool with a great vista of the region. I recommend calling ahead to advise what time you're arriving. They actually have two houses on the property and could see this as a great hangout place with some friends as the pool area can lend itself to a great party atmosphere!
