Cabana Retezat

The spot for the cabin is perfect, near the river and the forest, it's quiet, green and offers beautiful views of the mountains. The wooden cabin looks nice, rooms are bit kitchy but comfortable, they offer an indoor pool and ping-pong table but the garden is maybe the best part, a big green space with some trout basins, a barbecue spot and some seating areas by the river - it's perfect for relaxed sunny mornings and nice star-gazing at night. Food options are limited, they have a restaurant but not a la carte, they usually cook 1/2 courses per day (what we tried was good, quite traditional meat-based food and a really tasty cheese-cake type of dessert). There's no (or very weak) gsm signal but a wifi usually works on site. No room cleaning (we stayed 5 nights), but can't say that was a problem for us really. We recommend it particularly for hikes in Retezat (Gura Zlata is the closest park entrance) but also for visits in the Hateg area, which has a lot to offer.
