We stayed at this hotel for a few days and the location is good.  As mentioned in earlier reviews there are a number of levels and you can have a lot of stairs, so if you are not young and fit you may find their sister accommodation in Montserrat a better option as it has a lift (I did).  We enjoyed the friendly atmosphere and the helpful staff.  Some of the furnishings need replacement or refurbishment as they have obviously been well used.  Our mattress had an annoying spring.  Breakfasts were very enjoyable.

The place is very interesting and we appreciated the art and unusual architecture.  We think the intention to run a hostel\hotel is good but there is something missing in oversight of the business. 
We came in the bad time for the hotel, as it was damaged by the rainstorm with leaking and broken roof.  On our first morning , maybe because this was Sunday, there was nobody to prepare breakfast for us, the kitchen was left dirty , the water was dripping from the roof in the common area and there was nobody to contact.  The shower in our room was broken and water was flowing all over the place.  We were advised by the young lady at the reception to use the common shower ( but we paid for the apartment).   Yet from that day on, the service has improved.  We had fun meeting fellow travelers at the common breakfast table and exchange impressions by delicious breakfast with freshly squeezed juice and great coffee.  I agree that service was not up to par, immature and not reliable.  
Our apartment was on the third or maybe fourth floor that you need to get to by negotiating curvy fire stairs.  We are fit, so no problem with walking but we had hard time to drug our luggage upstairs.  Interesting experience after 13 hours of flight. 
You are going to experience real life and poverty going to this hotel.  There is a hotel \shelter next door that seems to house families with plenty of young children who play in the mud right in front of Bonito hotel.  This is sad reality of the country not negative aspect of the place.  
You can buy groceries at the store across the street.  Buses and subway are not far away.  
I need to add that manager gave us a discount when we communicated to her the issues. She made sure that we left satisfied and we saw that the repairs were underway.  
I think we caught the place in the challenging speck of time.  It is only right to give fair review for others who use this site as travel reference, as we do. During second week staying in Buenos Aires we did not come back to Bonito but chose different hotel.

Bonito is a beautiful, quirky place right in San Telmo. All rooms are decorated differently and very cosy - if your budget allows: get one with private terrace! They also have a parilla on the roof top to add some view to your homemade steak! So this makes for a perfect little hide-out in the city.

This is an outstanding hotel with nice special atmosphere in a good location. However hotel's staff seem to be too lazy and light-minded. They try to help, give advice but when you ask something the answer is most of the time I don't know, without willingness to check and at least a pretension of to be involved. The reception lady offered to book a taxi to an airport and at the last moment, thanks God, we found out that it is the wrong airport. So just be careful with this kind of help and trust yourself only:)

Good hotel with a strange stuff

very unusual B&B, we did not feel like we styaed in the hotel. Friendly and helpfull staff.  And cozy balcony where we had breakfasts :-) Great location. The neighborhood is nice and quiet ( Close to restaurants and shops) we felt very safe, even walking at nigh. I would recommend this place to those who like originality:-)
