Charming hotel. Lovely staff. But expensive for what you get. We stayed for st Patric weekend so that probably was part of the cause. The room was very cold and lacked a hairdryer which we were told would be present. We noticed the staff but no dryer was provided. The lounge with fireplace was lovely. Breakfast rolls unfortunately were very dry. All in all we really liked the place, but it was too expensive for what you got

Charming place but not value for money

My girlfriend and I’s stay here was exceptional. We stayed only one night, both of us are students, and we were presented with a display and service standard of luxury. Our memorable experience was being accommodated past the breakfast time (10am close) as we had slept-in. Upon arriving at the lobby, the (manager) approached us if we needed anything, and we explained our situation; if there was anything left from the breakfast. Three staff members, including the manager in the lobby, helped us out by bringing the two of us over to the kitchen area, giving us a medley of pastries, juices, and delicious coffee. I cannot recommend this hotel enough, and the kind accommodating service shown to us was the highlight of our trip :)

Weekend break

Booked a 2 night stay some weeks ago on a Bed and Breakfast rate.
On arriving at the hotel – still outside, the Chap smoking a cigarette released a button and let us into the “Hotel” – 1st question we were asked was ID which was the very first I’d heard about having ID to enter a Hotel. Having worked many years as Receptionist in 3* & 4* hotels I NEVER in my entire life asked guests for their ID.
After paying we headed up to our room [no lift] 6 flights of stairs and the further up we went the colder it became.  Room clean but very very small.  To use the toilet, we had to sit sideways as the Bathroom door was in the way. Water pressure was good and hot. 
Heating – was on a timer, we spoke to receptionist next morning and was told it would be raised which it was while we had breakfast but on entering the room that night, we were met with cold air.
We also requested extra pillows to keep out the drafts at a minimum and 1 handle was missing from the window.
Breakfast area – Lounge area – Receptionist area was all one AND ICE COLD.  Breakfast Menu consisted of just 2 options -   Continental or Full Irish.  We opted for Full Irish which was lovely except for the bacon which could stand on its own down by the Grand Canal and be used as a rod for fishing in the Liffey.
Both the evening Receptionist/Night Porter had a heavy Coat/jacket on him for the duration of our stay and he would need it.  There was a double-breasted chimney in the lounge – breakfast – receptionist area, we sat drinking our complimentary tea while shivers were going up and down our spine – NO HEATING OF ANY DESCRIPTION WAS ON.  
Having worked in the hospitality industry for years where we chatted with our guests, smiled and made the guests so welcoming – I would give this place   - 9 out of 10.  Would not recommend this place to anybody and IF you are coming do bring your Thermals to keep warm.

Very very Disappointing

I booked a double room for myself and a friend - we were all meeting from USA, England and Scotland to celebrate a 50th wedding anniversary.  Everyone was staying at different hotels, all within walking distance of each other.  The staff, at check in, was extremely rude, not sure if we ever saw him smile the 4 days we stayed there!  Not sure I would refer to this place as a hotel - more like a jail!!!  You can’t get into the place without reception walking to the door and letting you in.  My son arrived at the hotel to meet up with us but they would not let him up to our room to sit with us while we got ready to go sightseeing for the day because “we paid for a 2 person room so only 2 people can be in the room at any time”.  What????? So, be warned, you cannot bring anyone up to your room because, and I quote “it’s all about the money, you can’t have anyone else up there as you only paid for 2 people to be in the room”!!!  Hairdryer..... no hairdryer in the room, so after walking up 7 flights of stairs to our room, had to walk all the way back down with wet hair to ask for a hairdryer.  The thing didn’t work!  Gave up and went out for the day.  When we got back, asked if they had another hairdryer, they refused to give us a replacement until we brought back the other one!!!  This place is a joke, and we paid over $500 for 3 night stay!  It was the most unpleasant experience and definitely put a damper on our weekend celebrations!  DO NOT BOOK INTO THIS JAIL, oops, I mean hotel! 🙄

Jail or Hotel?

this hotel was well located within the city centre. however , the shower was freezing cold. i paid 217 for 2 nights which was pricey. i dont think i would return here based on my experience. dublin is a rip off city lol

barrys hotel review

Stayed for 2 nights and on arrival it’s easier to get into a prison, the receptionist/door opener/barman and prob chef was courteous but not over friendly I got my key and headed for room which an Everest explorer would struggle to find the room was basic but comfortable the tv was small and stuck in a corner which I’d say had a coat hanger as an arial ... that night at the “bar” a girl ordered drinks for room and was asked could she return the empties as he had no glasses left

Unfriendly and antiquated

It is always price value, how much you pay for what you get. I paid too much! I paid over 150 euro per night. What is by far too much for one night. if you get the room for 80 euro and you like to stay in retro style hotel, you can choose the barrys hotel. Super basic, cleanness ok, luxury zero.

Pay not more as 80 to 90 Euro

stayed at barry’s for two nights on a mini city break. upon arrival the hotel was clean and staff very friendly at the reception area. In the room however where three girls were staying we had only one mirror in the room with no light near it or plug sockets. We had to do all our hair and makeup using our compact mirrors. The electric went off both nights resulting in us not been able to have charged phones for the day. There was also no lifts and it was a three long flights of stairs to have to carry all out suitcases which wasn’t ideal. We then used the shower and washed our hair, the shower wasn’t powerful and took us around 30 mins to wash the soap suds from our hair. room was advertised as a triple room, i’m not even sure three children would have enough room. Toes were touching. The room was very clean but wasn’t a lot of space to get ready we all had to sit on our beds, there was no room to even swing a dead cat if i had one.

Barrys

Barry's Hotel is an old fashioned (not dreary) establishment with quaint and quirky rooms, stairs and service.  Clean and pleasant with accommodating staff; I felt at home during my short stay.  They provide a simple but excellent breakfast with local produce.  Tea and coffee is available 24rs and day.  Conveniently located for the city centre, O'Connell Street is less than a 5 minute walk with the River and Temple Bar are no more than 15 minutes away.

A Pleasant Retreat

This hotel is one of the very few reasonably priced places to stay in Dublin. That said, there were several serious problems. First room I was assigned had a horrible stench of faulty plumbing. Plus it was 7-1/2 flights of stairs to reach the room (no lift). For an old lady with asthma, this wasn’t acceptable. The generally helpful staff moved me the next day to a room that had less odor and was only 2 flights of stairs to climb. My major complaint was the lack of WiFi which I needed for navigation of the area as well as for work. Got plenty of excuses (they were working on it, repair people didn’t show up, etc.) but remained without internet connection my entire 5 night stay. I finally piggy-backed on the WiFi of the hotel next door which was an unsecured connection, but at least good for planning my excursions. This cost me greatly in time and money. No offer made to compensate in any way. The rooms were tiny, but clean. The shower was very small, but the water pressure was good and there was always plenty of hot water. Bathrooms, however, were oddly arranged. Non-smoking, but the hallways often reeked of cigarette smoke. I’m sure the staff was glad to see me go as I was at the front desk every day, pushing for the WiFi to be resolved. Location was good for this walking traveler. I won’t be staying here again, nor will I recommend it.
