This resort is probably one of the best resorts where I’ve stayed, primarily because of the amazing, friendly, & attentive staff.  From the moment I arrived, I was greeted with a warm smile by Alex, the bar & restaurant staff, who prepared my welcome drink then helped me check in.  Rebecca, the resort’s manager, then came & also warmly welcomed me.  She briefed me about the property, the restaurant, the activities offered, then showed me to my beautiful chalet with a sea view.

My room with its own balcony, right in front of the beach was perfect.  I watched the sunrise a couple of times from my balcony as I sipped my morning coffee.  There was coffee, cream, sugar & a kettle in the room, which was very convenient.  The ambiance of the place & the room felt like paradise, and my bed was super comfortable for a good night’s rest.  The only downside that I can think of is that wifi only works in the restaurant area and not in the rooms… but it was fine for me and had no problems with it.

The breakfast, which was included with my room rate, was excellent.  As a matter of fact, I ate most of my meals at the resort’s restaurant because their food was delicious.  Plus, the restaurant staff was always very attentive.  This place was the perfect place for me to relax.  

On one of the days, I independently booked a day trip to Bazaruto & Two Mile Reef with a local tour operator, but unfortunately, they didn’t show up as the tour was canceled.  As I was sitting in the reception area in the morning, waiting for my tour pick-up, which didn’t show up, Rebecca came to my rescue.  After I told her about the company I booked with & my contact’s name, she contacted him directly to find out what was going on.  She did confirm that the tour was cancelled because no one else was going.  It was low season in June so not many boats make the trip to Bazaruto, unless they get enough people.  Fortunately, they did have enough people for the next day so I was re-booked for the following day instead.  I was so thankful to Rebecca for really helping me sort all of this out.

If I come back to Vilanculos, I would definitely stay here again for sure.  The rooms, the food, the views, the ambiance, and the staff are just all wonderful!

I really enjoyed my stay at Baobab Beach Vilanculos. The rooms are extremely comfortable, the staff is super helpful and the atmosphere is lovely. I got to meet several other travelers, made lots of new friends and also got to attend a school for children learning English. It was a really special experience. The food here is also quite good! The manager of the hotel, Rebecca is extremely attentive and caring. Couldn't ask for anything more.
Overall a 10/10. 

Baobab Beach Vilanculos is a 10/10

If you want to experience the real Mozambique life in Vilancoulos this is the place to be! The accommodation is right on the beach, comfortable and clean. The service is personal and professional, nothing is more than a question away!
Value for money with good affordable meals.
And…. They upgrading accommodation again as I review.

The best real life experience in Vilancoulos

Wonderful stay. Nice quality chalet with incredible sea view. The restaurant prepares very tasty menus. Very friendly and dedicated staff.  Highly recommended if you are visiting Vilankulo. Perfect location for boat safaris.

Rebecca from Baobab is absolutely amazing, and she will assist with everything. I stayed in a Beachfront unit which had fantastic views. Own bathroom & ceiling and loose standing fan. Very centrally located and the restaurant & bar is always buzzing with residents. I will definitely go back again.

Great week at Baobab

Perhaps the accomodation is a good value, if you forget the masses of mosquitos under those trees, but I ordered a piña colada that was made with stuff from cans instead of fresh pineapple and coconut juice, and that costed more than in a bar in Brussels!

I do not agree with the "good value reviews" here

We were overnighting in Vilanculos. The lodge is a short ride from the airport. It is situated on the beach. The rooms are clean and spacious. The food was good. It was unfortunate that we were only able to spend the one night.

Good value

We didn't stay at Baobab but on the recommendation of a waiter at a hotel we stayed at, we visited for dinner. It was lovely. We had the matapa for a starter and we loved it. We then had the seafood pizza and whole grilled fish for mains. Delicious. I recommend the pizza as the firm favourite and you HAVE to try the matapa with their piri-piri drizzled over. Amazing. The food takes quite a long time to come out. We waited almost an hour before we got our starter. So try not come through famished because you become hangry waiting. There are decent drinks on offer to nurse your hunger while waiting.... service was friendly and I'd recommend eating here atleast once or twice while you visit Vilanculos. 

Matapa is a must!

Great resort, helpful staff and close to the main part of town and the market. Our beachfront hit was exactly that... couldn't get closer to the beach. It was great to watch the locals going out and returning from their day's fishing and the neighborhood was authentic rather than being surrounded by other hotels and resorts. It was quiet and genuine. No TV in the chalets so bring your books and come to relax! One point to note, the huts only had one ceiling light and  no bedside light, which made reading difficult, so bring a head torch or similar for extra comfort.  Can highly recommend this place!

Great choice in Vilanculos

Where to begin, our first time in Vilanculo, we can't wait to come back! From the moment we arrived at Baobab we just felt relaxed and at peace. Wonderful cabin with a view of the sea (a lot of time was spent on the hammock!). It was wonderful to step straight out onto the beach every morning and walk, have a splash in the crystal clear water. The whole area was very peaceful and clean, we were so impressed how much pride is taken to keep the beach and streets clean and without brash and tacky places

The baobab peri peri chicken is so good we once ordered it twice in one day! All the food was very good, but the chicken especially (that homemade peri peri is something else - they should bottle and sell it!). The breakfast was also great and good coffee. The fresh coconuts also a lovely touch. 

Finally we also need to say a special thanks and congratulations on outstanding service to Rabeka. In all our years of travelling, this is a person I will especially remember as such an excellent host. Warm and friendly, so efficient, makes sure everyone has what they needs and that guests are happy, also that the staff team are also happy and know what they are doing. She was fantastic at arranging all transfers, activities for us, all so easily and with a smile. She's charming and such an asset to this place and made sure how stay was extra special
