We had never been to Sofia before, so stayed 2 nights at the Hilton (which is way overpriced and charges for breakfast and for wi-fi) and searched for better lodgings.  We found several other hotels that were just okay, but still overpriced, when we happened on the Baldjieva which just has a little sign reading "Guest House, 2 stars."  I looked at the first room which was pretty grim, but then was shown the "suite" which was spacious, large bathroom, kingsize bed and a nifty little balcony overlooking the courtyard.  No breakfast, but there were tables and umbrellas in the courtyard and a good little restaurant served dinners there.  A little hole-in-the-wall bakery with great products is right next door---there is a trapdoor in the floor which leads down to the ovens!  The hotel is just one block off the main pedestrian avenue with many shops and restaurants in the area, and just about 3 blocks from the very center of town.  Free wi-fi and use of the lobby's computer.  All of that for 35 euros a night.  We spent 5 nights there for less that one night at the Hilton, and enjoyed it a lot more.

great value in great location

For the price we paid there is nothing to complain about. The rooms were clean, furniture was a bit old, the shower didn't have any curtain but had soap and shampoo.The wifi was not good at our room but it was ok at the reception and the garden. Most importantly this hotel's location is just great for a budget hotel. It is located at a street parallel to Vitosha Boulevard and ideally just a short walk from main attractions(like the statue of St Sophia, Banya Bashi Mosque, Palace of Justice etc)  and two metro stations, Serdika (which is a main metro station) and NDK station. The street of the hotel is far from the noise of the city, no trolley bus or tram noise like at many Sofia hotels. The neighborhood is safe, you can walk around late at night. The prices of the restaurants and cafes on Vitosha Blv are reasonable and the food is good. There is also a Mcdonalds and KFC near. We spent 2 days in Sofia and walked from here to all locations that we visited and took the subway(tickets are sold for 1 lev) for only 1-2 stops when we got tired.
The Hotel staff are polite and helpful. There are a few super markets and pastry shops around  where you can buy breakfast if you want.This is not a luxury hotel but ideal for people who likes to stay at the center of the city, walks around, go sight seeing and comes back to the hotel just to sleep and a shower.
