A Yado Gion Hostel

I had a pleasant stay at A-Yado Gion. The location is incredible, 5 minutes from Shijo-dori and very close to the Kamo river, Shirakawa stream and plenty of shops and restaurants. You’ll see geisha hurrying up and down outside the building in the evenings. There is free breakfast (one slice of bread each but it’s a chunky one!) and tea and coffee. There is also a free laundry service, although they do charge if you want to use the dryer. The WiFi was decent, although only the 3rd and 5th floods had it, which makes being in the 4th floor dorm a bit annoying, but no major problems. The staff are friendly and sweet with great English, and the 5th floor common area is very cute. On the downside, the 4th floor dorm was pretty cramped and a little dingy, with stained privacy curtains and only one toilet for 10 beds. There are 2 showers though which were good. The worst part is the beds themselves - hard and uncomfortable with horrendous pillows (like cotton wool balls in a bag). I didn’t get a decent nights sleep the whole week I was there. On the whole, very much recommended - just buy new pillows haha! Thanks guys.
