Awakeri Hot Springs

We booked on of the cabins - was quite acceptable - clean and tidy - maybe a bit dated but suited us (and the bed was very comfortable). Friends were in a cabin next door but one and we spent a fair amount of time eating and chatting (and having a few drinks) together (meant taking dishes and cutlery to the other cabin depending on where we were socialising for the evening. We didn't use the pools - not into blinding people with our lack of attractiveness! We did have to speak to the staff from time to time especially regarding the internet - it's the bane of their existence and the "expert " they deal with sounds hopeless. However that will be fixed in time and not having the internet was a welcome break! Did manage to have a Maketu pie a couple of times - delicious!! All in all a clean and reasonably priced stay - we would definitely use again if we're in the Whakatane area - it's only 10 - 15 minutes to the CBD by car. (Incidentally I see somebody complained about the cats - we only saw one and it was definitely not feral - just young and unsure of itself but in good condition
