We could barely tear ourselves away from this beautiful spot when it was time to leave. (Sadly, we could only spend one night.) Avragonio is a warren of stone cottages, half-hidden by flowers and shrubs, and connected by stone pathways and short flights of stone steps. It’s like something out of another time – a small-scale version of the stone villages of the surrounding Zagorohoria – but with modern amenities. The views of the mountains are nothing short of magical. Sitting in the terrace/garden of our cottage and watching the light change on the rock slopes as day gave way to night (and vice versa the next morning) was the only entertainment we needed here. Breakfast was delicious – and our delightful host Georgia kindly served it to us earlier than the scheduled breakfast hours to accommodate our departure time. I dream of returning here someday for another, longer stay.
